As someone who watched Clifford play from the age of 13 as my
son played in the same school team I can categorically confirm
that Clifford was always a 6 for both school (RGS) and Club
(Cobham) and was neither a Quins Academy or EPDG convert to the
back row. He would occasionally fill in at 8 if Alex Stout his
School, Club and England U16 companion (and IMHO the better
player at schoolboy level) was unavailable but he never played
in the centre in XV's. On a rare occasion he would play in the
midfield in 7's tournaments but not in XV's.

Ha, so I was essentially right! I'll have to dig out that post
from 2023 when I was correct about something else, then I can
have a real gloat.

Finally watched the Newcastle game and saw that their starting
fullback, Coetzee, was a lock by trade. He was at least Steward
standard, so that's a good example of an actual hybrid player.
