Which worked brilliantly. Until Ellis ran out of steam, because
he's a prop and not built to keep running the ball back. Play
players in their correct positions! I don't know why
international coaches can't understand this.

Did anybody see the South Africa V Japan game? Esterhuizen came
on to replace their No 6 Kolisi after 5 minutes of the second
half. The giant manged to score some 20 minutes later.
If you saw the interview with Marcus after the Newcastle game he
did mention how well he and Jerrod combined plus swapping things
about so Jerrod was at 10 and he played 12.
I really don't mind this swapping players around (as long as it
works) , how many times has an irish lock appered on the wing,
and nobody batters an eyelid.
England are very lucky to have world class players in certain
positions, but in others we don't or if we do it's only 1 and if
the 1 player is out then England are screwed! And I would
suggest that at the moment it's 12, 13, and 15 that we lack 2 or
3 world class players, hence why they have put Marcus at 15, and
talking about Earle in the centre.

I think the game is going in the wrong direction.
Power now means everything, and skill is going out the window.
The proximate problem is the 6:2 split.
So forwards basically do not need to be able to pay for 80
minutes.
Only two out of the back five will, and none of the front row.
So forwards are bigger, and as a heavier or fresher pack turns
any scrum into a penalty, and if well drilled turn a line-out
near the goal line into a try - teams are almost forced to use a
6:2, or even 7:1 split.
Let's go back to a smaller bench.
I would suggest five men with ten interchanges - as used in
National Leagues.
And make the hookers actually hook - which simply means not
letting the scrum-half feed the ball to lock.
If the hooker is hooking, they are not pushing. And the props
need to concentrate on keeping them steady. So it is more likely
that the ball comes out of the scrum, rather than sending with a
penalty.
And no, I am not Brian Moore.

Pieter-Steph du Toit seems to appear alongside his winger
frequently. But then he's a pretty unique player.
Can I ask, which England players do you think are world class?

Proposal: The French Rugby Federation proposed reducing the
number of total replacements from eight to six as part of a
package of changes aimed at increasing ball-in-play time and
reducing stoppages.
Status: This was a proposal discussed in late 2024. World Rugby
has not announced a global trial for this specific change to the
number of substitutes yet. The current official law allows for
up to eight substitutes, with competition organizers able to
vary the maximum number

I think there's a difference between players moving more fluidly
to different positions on the field at certain points in the
game to completely replacing one position with another. Forwards
do often end up out on the wing for certain parts of the game.
But you wouldn't want to ditch your wingers and just have
forwards. Obviously there are some positions where players move
between more easily. Back three, often. 10 and 12. 12 and 13.
Back row and locks. I think it would be a big mistake to go
beyond that without injury or bench options forcing it.

How is Roebuck (4 tries in 7 internationals, 49 tries on 108
club matches inc. 8 in 15 champions cup appearances) not an
actual winger, and why is that a better solution than an actual
fullback or someone like Arundell with a lot of time and ability
there?

Borthwick has said that he likes players who can play more than
one position as it makes the bench options wider which is
logical but that’s not what he’s doing. Only he thinks it’s a
good idea to start players in their secondary positions. Is a
very good 12 going to be better than an international 13 or wing
that’s been moved? Ditto fullback.

Fullback is a jinxed position for England with Furbank being
constantly injured and Carpenter also now injured.
Is Arundell a fullback, Bath seem to consider him a wing, he has
surprised me since coming back from France, but at international
level at fullback who knows, the only answer is to try him and
see.
And now may be the time.
