Green is excellent for us but his kicking game is really poor
and he does sometimes have matches where his defence is all over
       the shop.
Furbank is a quality all round attacking player who also hits
like a truck. Carpenter is nails, great in the air, and a hard
       runner.
I think both are better all round players than Green, Furbank in
particular. But that's no slight on Green, just an
acknowledgement that we lose something by having him at the back
for us. Steward is similar, really.
Anyway, this is a daft England selection that falls apart as
soon as a back gets injured.

Interesting how different coaches see things. Marcus was
preferred over both Fin and Ford for the Lions, but he can't
even get into the 23 for England. The main reason to have Fin
Smith, it seems to me, is because he links well with his Saints
teammates, but Mitchell is starting while Fin is on the bench,
       paired with Spencer.
Ah, but what do I know? Quins starting the season so badly has
undoubtedly meant Marcus isn't in as much favour, but I get the
feeling that Borthwick has never really known what to do with
       him.

How much has Freeman played at 13?

Agreed and the disaster at Exeter probably provided enough of an
excuse for Marcus to miss out when there were three viable FH
going for two positions in the squad.

A decent amount, 13 starts there for Saints and lots more off
the bench or during games. I think it's actually his best
long-term position and it's where he first made waves with his
       performances a few years back.

I'm minded to think that J.Schmidt is quietly smiling
Zero ambition and zero forward planning from Borthwick for RWC
       2027
       Just my view

He’ll get pelters whoever he picks to be honest. I certainly
don’t agree with lots of what SB does but the England coach is
between a rock and hard place with selection. For some he won’t
be focused enough on the next game, others not focused enough on
the World Cup/6 nations, too conservative, too reckless and so
on. World Cup seedings will be decided by the rankings at the
end of these AIs so that’s a consideration.
Not at all opposed to Freeman at 13, as Jammy says I think he’ll
ultimately settle there long term. An outside backs injury will
make things a bit ‘interesting.’ Pepper’s earnt a shot and good
to see the reserve props getting a start. Think Martin’s general
brutality is a fair miss as well but that’s a very mobile back
       5.
