Don't get this argument at all. Imagine going to the bank for a
£60m loan and telling them you'll break even in year 6. You'd
get laughed out of the manager's office. Professionalism doesn't
care about gender - no gender has a right to professionalism. If
it makes money it should be professional, if it doesn't
(especially if it loses vast sums) it shouldn't. Women's rugby
might be growing at a fast rate but that's largely down to the
huge spending on it and still, growth doesn't mean profit.

But the RFU is not a bank and most rugby will not make a profit
outside of International games, it is around the future and the
whole of the game not just a part, someone probably made a
similar argument about gaslighting and electric street lights,
and horses and cars.
Not entirely sure your vision matches the RFU.
The mission of the Rugby Football Union (RFU) is to enrich
lives, introduce more people to rugby union, and develop the
sport for future generations. The RFU focuses on supporting
rugby from the grassroots to the performance level, building
commercial partnerships, and running its organization
effectively to ensure the sport thrives.

Rugby Union went professional in 1995. Between then and 2025
Harlequins have not made an actual penny profit. Some seasons we
lost about £5m.

The last figures from the football premier league showed 6 clubs
making a profit and 14 making a loss.

Don't dispute any of that, DOK.
I'm referring to men's rugby as a whole, including
internationals. Plenty of clubs lose money year on year but
that's more due to mismanagement and trying to keep up with the
Joneses in terms of salaries etc. in order to compete in
European competitions and so on. The fact remains that men's
rugby went professional for a reason and there was money to be
made. The interest was there, no shortage of owners willing to
put money into the men's game and the RFU were making vast sums
off the back of international fixtures.

Cute, but if that were true they wouldn't have laid off all
their community staff.
The mission of the RFU is to make as much money as possible
while appearing to do the right thing to keep stakeholders
onside. Long and short of it.

I'm talking about rugby.
The figures in football are so astronomical that Man Utd could
happily operate at -£700m for seasons on end, because the huge
sums of money continue to roll in. Not really comparable to
rugby, but especially not women's rugby.

This "potential" has been thrown around season after season.
Still haemorrhages massive sums in the name of equality, but hey
if we keep throwing good money after bad maybe it'll eventually
lose £10m a year instead of £12m.
The women's game had the opportunity to learn from pro men's
rugby's mistakes but it seems intent on copying all of them.
With a less appealing sport than men's rugby, it'll likely end
up in a worse position.

Since that is the mission statement of the RFU, I would suggest
you stand to become president.
