Yes, the 281 does run 24 hours. However, this isn't an option as
it is on divert when the stadium is in use. Add are most of the
other bits routes in the area. Hence why most local residents
oppose plans to have events on weekdays as there are no options
for kids to get home from school on school buses.

I've used the 281 from somewhere just south of the station on
London road to get to Surbiton. Same the other way, but you have
to pick it up in Whitton, I think.

Well speaking as a local, if the people coming to and from the
gigs could get in and out of the station it probably wouldn’t be
so much of an issue - but they can’t and that’s what’s causes
the chaos.
Most of the rugby fans are fine - but our friends near the
stadium do have to stop people pissing or worse in their front
garden - and it’s got worse since Covid (like almost all public
behaviour).
As it goes the sound in HQ for gigs is awful from our experience
- so maybe for music fans it’s not such a bad decision.

They upgraded the system in 2024 , but it is still pretty bad.

Don't get me started on all the factors involved with acoustics
relating to gigs! The speakers themselves in the stadium are up
to the job, providing the touring set-up is properly driven. The
speakers are the last step in a long chain of equipment from the
source (instrument/voice/sythn/etc). And most importantly if the
FoH engineer (the guy at the sound desk you see in the
middle/back of the auditorium gets the mix wrong, even the most
perfect speakers will create mush.
I've had to learn all this as part of my job, testing things
like this:

There are better speakers than JBL, but they are brand that
people know, but are now owned by Samsung, the main problem is
that the stadium was never designed with concerts in mind unlike
the new Wembley and the Amex.

The Metallica gig there was just a sort of strained mish mash of
distortion and vaguely Metallica-sounding drums. But then it
could have just been Lars playing a different tempo to everyone
else....
