Secondary ticket (non) check
DIR By: Fairfax

No idea whether it applied generally but yesterday before
kick-off stewards had restricted access to the West stand in the
south west corner by erecting a couple of metal barriers. This
caused an inevitable jam as a couple of stewards and a
supervisor wanted to see tickets before permitting people to
pass. There was no announcement to this effect so when arriving
at the front of the mêlee, everyone had to start fumbling for
tickets/cards etc, thereby increasing the queue and delay of
course. Fortunately the stewards were not particularly forensic
in their approach and wafting phones , wallets etc vaguely in
their direction seemed sufficient.
However, I am at a loss as to the problem they were trying to
solve with this approach.
Any ideas?

To stop people from blocking up the access to that part of the
West Stand as once the gate closes at the tunnel you end up with
many being turned back to have walk around the back of the stand
to other side.
It worked and I got to my seat an easy 15min before KO with
being forced to endure the peasants & plumbs who want the last
minite rush only to be on the worong side for access.
If that was a trial then carry on with it.
Bit like the queues for vendors at South end of the East Stand -
need keep clear passage so you can get to the South Stand access
tunnel.

It seemed a bit silly to me; just a big queue in the corner of
the west and south waiting to get to our seats.

I’m not even sure we are talking about the same thing. As QP
says it created a queue, rather than avoiding one and there was
no system in place to prevent access to people whose seats were
on the opposite side of the closure.

This is exactly the reason. I think it could have been
implemented better. Hopefully they will improve the
process/communication.

Mainly to stop north stand and west stand FF - FJ ticket holders
trying to force their way through FE over the players tunnel
causing both a backlog for all and annoying those sitting in FE.
Something over the PA warning of the checks might have helped
but how many people listen?

As a West Stand resident - (FD) something needed to be done for
both issues. It was becoming almost impossible to get to your
seat because of the sheer number of people "blocking" access
watching teams warm up, or swimming against the flow of traffic
to try get to their seats in other stands in last minutes before
kickoff.
Then you have the 'special' ones who refuse to go around back of
stand if the tunnel gates are closed, and then try move over the
tunnel through seats - some even doing this when match has
kicked off...
Whilst what was applied on Sunday, was a bit clumsy - I think
it'll likely be tweaked, and as word gets out (Pre match stadium
announcements?) it'll improve.
