A non Quins fan asked me why there is such apparent enmity
between the 2 clubs. I nearly launched into a diatribe but
restrained myself. Which made me think of how irksome the TNT
production has become with the influence of the American
"Discovery" mob. And if I have to sign in to Discovery yet again
this week I shall most likely spit the dummy.

How aware were they of things such as the salary cap saga, the
fat lady singing, the paying random groups of people to go to
Leicester away for them in a play off semi a few years ago?

It was in the dim and distant - shortly after b***dgate sort of
time, there was a lot of chat about Sarries officials going
around places where lots of South Africans hung out in London
and providing them with a ticket and transport to go and make a
lot of noise up at a Leicester away match.

Yeah, but after bloodgate, it's hard for us to attack others.
And, yeah, it's a long time ago.
For me, disliking Saracens is more about rivalry with a nearby
team, particularly one that's more successful and comes across
as arrogant. I don't actually hate Sarries or their supporters,
but I do like a win against them more than against most other
teams.

This is the interesting bit for me. My understanding (somewhat
backed up by Pitbull's article) is that the rivalry was always
with Wasps (given the shared history) and Richmond as
neighbours. There was a stint when it was Irish around the pitch
share.
Wasps left London in 2014 which happened to coincide with
Sarries league dominance/European success - and the rumours of
how those were achieved. It was a perfect storm of no other
London Prem clubs and Sarries becoming the pantomime villain.

We admitted everything (eventually!) with Bloodgate and suffered
serious punishment. It didn't materially affect any other clubs.
Saracens warped English rugby for several years, won fraudulent
titles, stole players from other clubs, continued to reap the
benefits of the sustained cheating long after it was "over", and
never fully admitted their wrongdoing.
We were involved in exposing some of it and so there is genuine
bad blood between the sides.

One last thing I'm going to give Sarries credit for before I
stop thinking about the match: afterwards, the Sarries coaches
(in the bits I saw at least) were saying it wasn't good enough,
they had been poor, etc. None of the "we played well, we're
taking learnings" nonsense that we've been dished up for ages
from Quins, and Wilson in particular.

Owen Farrell isn’t a Northerner as he grew up in StAlbans which
IS north of Watford but not far enough up the country to be
classed as being “In the North”. Chris’s Ashton takes the Micky
out of him as he sounds more “Wigan” than he does. He could
however play for The North through his parent’s qualifying as
Northerners especially his Father who played rugby league to a
very high standard. There is no bigger qualification than that.
I don’t dislike Faz , only on a rivalry with Salarycens
basis. Has he become disliked due to him being constantly picked
for England and doing nothing in particular to justify his
selection according to the fans. It is frustrating watching him
kick away overlaps but if that’s what he was told to do you
don’t want to upset Lanny or Eddy. I think he’s one of those
players that you don’t want to play against but you would
welcome into your own side. Unlike Ashey.
