That is very sad.
Although we've had a few high profile cases of rugby players
with MND now, it doesn't seem that it's prevalent enough for
there to be a connection. The lifetime incidence rate is
estimated at 1 in 300 in the general population, which isn't out
of line with the number of cases among pro rugby players versus
the number of players.

Sad news. Many of us could be in that category of feeling fine
just with a slight "niggle" so to speak but then get the worst
news possible so its fairly sobering

Awful news. I lost a work colleague to MND a while back. It's a
truly horrible disease. Best wishes to Lewis and family.

For sure, so much we don't know about it and whether Rugby
players are more likely or not. Very tough for him and his
family.

Not all MND sufferers play rugby.
Stephen Hawking might have been made to play while at St Albans
School, but at university he was a cox. The good news is that he
lived for 50 years after his diagnosis - with very little loss
of cognitive ability.
As he said, "Before I got motor neuron disease, I was bored with
life. But the prospect of an early death made me realize life
was really worth living."
Having said that, my heart goes out to Lewis and all his family.

The media seem to link sport and the condition without going
into the required level of detail and explaining the link with
CTE, when in fact it needs a lot more research, the only person
i know who has MND is the least sporty person you could ever
meet, so other factors are also at play.

Poor sod. He was a great player, utterly fearless and dedicated.
I really hope the game didn't contribute to this, because I'd
hate to think that the entertainment he gave us was what led to
it.
