looks like it wouldn't have taken too much. Fair enough if he
was behind someone world class or a club legend but that's not
really the case here. I don't think we would have lost much by
       giving him a few starts.

keeping hold of his academy players recently. We could
theoretically have had a front 5 of Baxter, jibulu, sinckler
(could have included collier but we got most of his career out
of him), lamb and tizard if 4 out of 5 of them hadnt gone
elsewhere. Maybe other clubs have the same issue and we don't
notice as much but it doesn't feel like it.

There's a big difference between players thinking they deserve
to start, and coaches agreeing with them.
It was a shame to lose Jibulu - or was it? Very talented, but IF
he throws a hissy fit when he's not selected, that's a massive
negative and potentially toxic in the squad. Or, if he just felt
he would get more opportunities elsewhere, then that's
understandable. Still a risky decision though.

From reading this, I don't think that his expectations were
       realistic.
It suggests that he was expecting to start more games than he
       was doing.
In reality, I think he has just turned 21 when he decided to
leave as in his words, he had only had one start in the Prem.
I think he was the regular bench option though.
I doubt that Quins would have exposed a young player to starting
that often. They would manage his workload - probably for his
       own good.
I think therefore that he was just impatient and was probably
       offered more money and left.

Few interesting points raised but it's v alarming that he left -
He would have been worth more under the cap for EPQ Academy - so
prob would have been a lot cheaper to retain on the same salary
we're paying Turner - could have spent that money elsewhere.
Interesting that he was in early training with Lennox....I
wonder if both decided Quins was not for them - not blaming them
but two mates feel the club hasn't given them enough game time
get decent offers from elsewhere - club doesn't show them enough
love to stay. Lennox isn't pulling up trees at Montpellier, but
Nathan will go on to play for England and Quins will look a
       little silly.

But from his POV, he was in the England U20s front row with
Asher and Fasogbon. Last season, Asher apparently started 19
Sale games, 1 England A game and 1 England game. He was also on
the bench for 3 England games and got to train with the Lions.
Afo started 12 Gloucester games and benched for the A game. He
       also trained with England.
Jibs started once and got to train with the A team.
That's quite a difference so I can understand why somebody might
think that they aren't getting the chances that players are at
other clubs. If Asher and Afo are old enough to be regularly
exposed to 1st XV games, Jibs could surmise that he also is.

The main thing I can't get over is how we've looked at his
performances and decided he wasn't worth keeping. Riley has
regressed to the point hes now third choice anyway yet extended
his contract. I think most here would have had Jibulu as first
choice (well I would for this season as we need more dynamism)
with Walker as back up, and then someone like Musk/Head as a
third wheel. Financially it wouldn't have been more I imagine
than signing Turner and renewing Riley.
Looking at our senior academy players and potential players to
break in to the 23 in the way Jibulu did, I don't think this
season there will be many, if any with the possible exception of
Friday when fit. Carr/Schmid are good but back row isn't an area
of weakness for us. Ideally for a bench role it would be Slevin
or Kolade but I'm not convinced either are ready.

Yeah. This is my read on it too. How many 21 year old hookers
across the league (or other competitions) are regular starters?
He basically admitted he was impatient and Sale turned his head.
       It happens.
If we’d had a better/more inspiring head coach, I suspect we
might have kept him but it is what it is.

But that didn’t happen. He literally said Quins made him a good
offer and tried to get him to stay. At worst it was too little
too late, but his own words paint a picture of him having his
head turned by what he viewed as a better opportunity to play a
       more confrontational style of rugby.

It's instructive to compare Jibs's path to Baxter's. Fin got an
early chance through injuries (and was already on the England
radar even then), but Quins managed his game time and when he
was ready he overtook Marler (who even at the end of his career
was a better player in his position than any of our hookers).
I imagine they had something similar planned with Jibs - though
I think a problem he may have perceived was having 3 other
youngish hookers ahead of him who had (unusually for Quins)
mostly managed to stay fit and in reasonable form. That's
actually a positive for the club - we've definitely had track
record of playing hookers too much too soon and breaking them,
so managing their game time is a good thing. What they appear to
have failed to do was to get that message across to him - at
least not before Sale turned his head.
