I'm in full agreement with you there for once. We definitely
need more 'steel' but I don't think Dimes is the way to go.
In our situation I think we'd still be mid table but with a new
group of annoyed people each season. He's marmite.

Or they just looked at his record of stunning success in his
other clubs and sparkling personality and sacked him.

I'll take that. Method in some of the madness.
Slightly controversial, what if we landed Ronan O'Gara? I could
see him going to Newcastle though for the bucks and project

But he has never actually won anything, and he seemed to be
allergic to finishing in the top four at Sale.
Newcastle have sacked him because of that and perhaps that some
players may not be keen to go to a club with him there has
prompted it to be so early, to not interfere with nexts seasons
       recruitment.

If we need a shake up and a hard edge there are other options.
I too could probably put up with O'Gara (also not a great
       personality but a winner nevertheless).
Cant see him putting up with Quins though.

I fully appreciate that I will have a different view of Dimes
than most on here but I think there are some misrepresentations.
Dimes didn't oversee a Sale team that was "allergic to finishing
in the top four". He led a Sale team that was allegedly paying
way under the cap and therefore struggled in the seasons when we
were playing in the Heineken Cup. Typically we would finish 5th
or 6th, scrape into the Heineken and then struggle the next
season and finish around 10th. We'd then be in the lower
European Cup so could concentrate on the league and finish
mid-table. What he managed to achieve in that time was that we
       were never relegated.
Once the current owners came in (supposedly a relationships that
Dimes was influential in creating), we were more consistent and
did win something. It was only the Prem Cup but it was
       silverware.
Dimes then left (officially because of family reasons - I think
his mum died and his sister was ill) and promptly won the Prem
Cup again with Worcester. Again, hardly the pinnacle of anyone's
ambitions but given the squad they had, a decent return.
The messages I have seen from Worcester fans seem to be largely
in favour of Dimes and what he did. Similarly Newcastle fans
seem to thing he's been treated pretty badly.
Dimes is great with a team that needs some steel and to become
hard to beat so I'd agree he builds gritty teams in his image.
However, it's a bit much to say that they "show some fight while
getting thrashed every week". We were often mid-table finishers
and had some great wins - this one sticks in the memory
  HTML https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/rugby-union/46729244.
I'm also wondering why his appointment would mean the loss of
anyone with a high ceiling. He did OK with Faf and the Currys
among others. As has also been mentioned, he seems to be great
       at building a strong academy.
Not for one second do I think he's right for Quins. Arguably,
the changing room at Quins has become a little too cosy but I
think Dimes would be too much of a swing the other way.

What's he won? Well, he went to Newcastle and they won a few
games. For perspective, Newcastle were a team that seemingly
couldn't even win a coin toss.
He doesn't need to be a nice guy. We've had a few of those and
       where did that get us?
To juxtapose what Napoleon (might have) said: don't get me a
nice coach, get me a coach that wins games.

Head Honchos who have had to scrape and save to run a team do
sometimes struggle when the financial taps are turned on. Its a
       psychological thing I guess?
