Most people were pulling the end off it over Canada and you
rightly pointed out what England had been doing so well in
comparison. It was a total mismatch on the day even though
Canada showed some excellent attacking skills that would no
       doubt work well in 7s.
By comparison, Squidge spent the last few weeks telling people
that Canada had reinvented the game, that England wouldn't even
beat France, and that (the night before the final) Canada would
       be guaranteed world champions.

To be fair to the pundants, I think a big part of it was wanting
to create a sense of tension around the game.
I don't honestly believe that all of them were so simplistic in
their analysis as to be completely blind to the way the Roses'
strategy was based on defence (though Squidge let his Welshness
show and I think Ruby Tui was still getting over the Ferns'
       exit.)
But it was nice to have called it... I even (politely) disagreed
with Simon Middleton on RugbyPass, which felt a bit presumptuous
       at the time...

The thing is, very few people had Canada thrashing the Black
Ferns. So it wasn't totally illogical to think they might push
England a lot closer. In the end, Canada crumbled a bit under
the pressure, with their otherwise impeccable lineout going to
pieces and so on. England's defence squeezed them, and the
forwards destroyed their set pieces, and showed themselves to be
well above every other team out there.

Middleton does not seem to be over losing the previous final,
and Ruby Tui is just a New Zealand fan at heart, best cure for
       Welshness is playing for England.

Thanks Poorfour, looking forward to reading that.
Don't know if you cover it but calling out the BBC on their
mixed support would be worth a shout. Having been at the game,
when I woke up on Sunday morning, I wanted to go back and watch
the highlights and the commentary/analysis. What did I find on
iPlayer? 7 minutes. Of course, you had the MOTD stuff all over
it and even 90 minutes of the Ryder Cup but nothing analysing
what was a great game. They like to give it the big un about
supporting Women's rugby and it being on FTA but in this modern
world, that was poor by the national broadcaster.

That is a shame - though to be fair the Beeb may not have had
the rights to broadcast a full replay or may be waiting on the
production team for a replay package. At the moment even
RugbyPass (WR's own content site) only has a 14 minute extended
       highlights package:

EDIT: looks like that was the case! Thanks BB
