I don’t know whether it’s that our coaches are not good enough,
the team are over coached or if it just a general attitude
thing. But this really isn’t good enough. I not sure how any of
us can have any hope of not getting smashed up by Bath or of
this being anything other than another mediocre (ar best)
       season.

much weaker in relation to that player to likely to be called
upon to play a meaningful part of the season. It was even more
worrying Tyrone was one of the worst players on the pitch, so it
would be a big surprise if we were more slicker in a weeks time.
Stranger things have happened, but most of my moans are based on
what I see and think will happen based on what’s known and I’m
slowly being proven correct with that outlook

Yes, it is a poor result, particularly at home. But
realistically the only thing that actually matters about these
games is getting the right players some match fitness, and
giving game time to players who are going to struggle for that
during the regular season. I'd rather Tyrone played poorly in
this match than against Bath - we know he can take a bit of time
to get up to speed, we saw that last season.
(I say this with the caveat that our injury and
       unavailable-for-international-rest-reasons list is somewhat
confusing and I could be very wrong about the makeup of the side
that takes the field against Bath)
But in all honesty the problem is you are treating every single
adverse event as an excuse to go full bore with the negativity
and proclaiming yourself some kind of visionary genius. Instead
of trying to needle people who made the point about this not
being our first XV, why not just accept that it's true but that
it doesn't completely counter your concerns? Instead of banging
on about how you are "being proven right" before a senior match
is played, why not leave the ego at the door and engage with
this board like a normal person? There's no shortage of problems
to discuss, but if your starting point is to act like we've just
been relegated then there's nowhere to go.
It's going to be an extremely long season otherwise, as no-one
on here is expecting Quins to be great, and while I'm sure you
enjoy the attention and the notoriety I can't imagine it will
       end well.

Imagining it won’t end well? Not going to end up in the Thames
       tied down I hope.
I stay within the rules and I’ve got thick skin so no bother.
I’m sure in a months time we will know where we stand either way
and it will be a diverse year of discussion

"Not ending well" in this context is hacking off enough of the
more moderate posters that the board ends up as an echo chamber
of negativity. It's happened to plenty of other boards, and it's
       starting to happen here.
Pessimism is a rational strategy, because if you're right you
were right and if you're wrong you're pleasantly surprised. But
relentless (and largely pointless - what are you actually
changing with it?) pessimism wears down a lot of people who are
happy to accept with a little more equanimity that sport has its
ups and downs and that the whole point is that at the end of the
season at least half the fans will be disappointed.

If anyone has a claim to bring right about this game, then I
think that I may have a valid claim.
We were generally doing okay. Good in the first period.
Unfortunate mistake by Green after a try saving tackle. Defence
all right. Tigers scoring from penalties. Pretty good either
       side of half time.
But, one that the bench was cleared, we lost all momentum.
I will say it again. I would rather play these games with a
stable starting 15 of academy players with senior players on the
bench. Yes, you may get humped by stronger teams, but you can
get good results too (see sarries vs us last year) or, us when
we beat Bath years ago in the LV cup semi final.

If we are to make a better start against Bath I hope Waghorn and
Benson are fit, as I don’t think Jarrod is a calming presence
you need (plus he can’t kick). If we have our England boys back,
they all go straight in though bar Northmore who’s injured.

People tend not to be pessimistic if the team plays well and it
doesn't appear that any apparent malaise from previous seasons
runs through the squad beyond the first choice players.

I think the reason that people are so pessimistic and upset at
the moment is that the squad for this match wasn't just an
academy team. Taking into account injuries and the players from
the Lions and Argentina who won't be available, a good chunk of
this team will be the core of the 23 who run out against Bath in
the first match. At the very least, you would expect Green,
Cleaves, David, J. Evans, Walker, Williams, Treadwell,
Kenningham, Evans, Lawday, and Turner to have a good chance of
featuring, as well as probably a couple of others. That's at
least 11 out of a 23 who were beaten by a Tigers team featuring
very few who will play in the premiership this season. That's
       concerning.
Yes, we will have a chunk of England players back, and Marcus
Smith back a few weeks later, but we don't get the Argentinians
until probably the Autumn internationals, and I don't know how
many of injured players are likely to come back soon.
So, yeah, it's a concerning start to the season.

There's pessimism and then there's the relentless high-volume
negativity and rampant egotism. I don't think anyone is
complaining that people are unhappy or worried. We just seem to
have some people who are absolutely thrilled whenever there is
       any reason to complain.
