I think people are being unfair on Harry, the scrums after the
first game have been solid and a bit more attacking on his side.
In the loose he is getting used to how we play so will take a
bit of time. His first job is the scrum and they have been good
overall. Look forward to his battle with Delgado for the
starting slot

One of the more serious points made by the coaches at the
Quinssa AGM last night was that some of the comments made about
Titi online have brought his wife to tears.
Whatever you think of him as a player (and they began by saying
that both he and they feel he hasn’t yet delivered what they
wanted from him), he and his family are still human beings.

That's a good point to be fair. It's easy to forget that the
players probably do read some of what gets written about them
online. For those of us that weren't at the meeting were there
any other interesting takeaways?

There were quite a few, though I am not sure how much it’s fair
to repeat. They went through some of the high profile departures
and explained some of the reasoning behind them - one thing that
was clear was that they had tried hard to keep some players, but
there has been external factors whether personal or the sheer
amount of money on the table, that Quins couldn’t counter.
They have let some players go when their development from hasn’t
matched their promise, or simply because they have too many good
players vying for certain shirts.
More broadly:
- Gilly’s focus is on consistency (backing up good performances
with more good performances) and “winning the week” (i.e.
getting the prep right every week)
- They are trying to tailor the tactics more to particular
sides. Some of what was played on Sunday came from the coaches,
but Marcus had a hand in designing the tactics, particularly
kicking into their 22
- The squad structure been too broad with too much of a spread
in quality. To change that, they’ve moved from a three training
squad model to two, and the second squad has been given an
identity as the Jesters and set the challenge of becoming the
best second team in the league.
- They are still open to recruiting a direct replacement for
Andre, but he’s unique and they haven’t found the right player
yet. They want Northmore to focus on 13, but are happy for
Benson to learn from Marcus playing 12 and speculated about
whether Beard might convert. However, it was also clear that
they like Waghorn at IC and are keen for him to be back
- In other injury news, Lucas Friday is back in full training
(really quick for an ACL),, and Snapper described him as “like a
young DC with potentially an even higher ceiling”
- The recruitment around tighthead is to give the younger props
more time to develop - Bomb was very clear that “Fin Baxter is
like rocking horse shit” in terms of the speed of his
development
- But equally they are clearly very happy with how the
Argentinian contingent have performed. They’ve negotiated
directly with Contepomi about their availability and they will
not miss any more league games on international duty.
- The priority this year is the league, and the Jesters will
play the Prem Cup games to give them development time

Reassuring to see they are Northmore as a 13, a part of me was
hoping they’d see it as a genuine viable option to have him as a
12

Not sure why they've flagged Beard as an option at 12 though...
At 13 he has the luxury of a bit more time and space to assess
options before either stepping in off the outside foot and
beating the man inside or burning off on one of his looping arcs
on the outside. Really feel 12 would limit his more obvious
strengths.

Thanks PF. Nothing much to disagree with there and good to see
that the club are broadly thinking along the same lines as the
real experts on here.
The idea about Beard at 12 is an interesting one as he
instinctively seems a much better candidate for it than
Northmore given their respective styles of play. I can only
assume that experience was the reason why he wasn't the one
tried there first.
Also good to hear that we should have the Argentinians around
from now on. I genuinely think that how much we get out of them
is likely to define our season- especially based on the first 3
games.
