       Wilson to Wales

Apparently he's left to become defence coach.
While I'm not disappointed to see the back of him that is hugely
disruptive ahead of our first competitive match of the season.

Harlequins can today confirm that Head Coach Danny Wilson will
depart the Club to join the Welsh Rugby Union as Assistant Coach
       for the Men's national squad.
Wilson will lead the team for the final time in Friday night’s
PREM Rugby Cup fixture away to Newcastle Red Bulls, before
commencing his role at the WRU.
Following his departure, Harlequins’ coaching group of Nick
Evans (Attack), Jason Gilmore (Defence), Adam Jones (Scrum) and
Gerard Mullen (Skills) alongside General Manager, Andy Sanger
MBE will assume greater responsibility in the short term. The
Club has already begun a thorough review process to determine
next steps and further updates on this will follow imminently.
Wilson joined Harlequins in July 2023 and during his tenure he
guided the Club to their first-ever Investec Champions Cup
semi-final appearance. A moment that will live long in memory of
       players, staff and fans.
He returns to international rugby having previously held the
role of Forwards Coach with Scotland between 2018-2020.
Danny Wilson said: “This has been a really tough decision for me
to make as I have thoroughly enjoyed my time at Quins, but the
chance to join Wales and return to international rugby was
simply too good an opportunity to turn down.
“There have been some incredible moments while I have been at
Quins, and as always, some that have been more challenging. But
the run into the 2023/24 Champions Cup semi-final with memorable
victories over Racing 92, Glasgow Warriors and Bordeaux
alongside our victory over Saracens at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium
last season will stay with me for a long time.
“I am also hugely proud of the work we’ve undertaken in the last
two seasons to blood the next generation of Quins players, and I
know this will stand the Club in good stead for the 2025/26
season and beyond. Finally, I’d like to thank the players,
Board, staff and fans for all their support during my time at
       Quins.”
Harlequins Chief Executive Officer, Laurie Dalrymple said:
“Whilst we recognise that we are close to start of the new
Gallagher PREM campaign, we are confident in our coaching team’s
ability to step up and deliver, and we are excited to kick off
       our PREM season.
“Things with the WRU have moved quickly but we have been keen to
support this move for Danny, which allows him to return to
coaching at international level and also supports him from a
personal perspective. I’d like to take this opportunity to thank
him for his contribution to Quins.
“For us, the focus is now on Friday night’s PREM Cup game at
Newcastle, our home PREM Cup fixture against Leicester Tigers
that follows a week later and then, on September 26th for our
first Gallagher PREM fixture at home against Bath, where we are
expecting a sell-out crowd to watch us take on the current
       Champions at The Stoop.”

In all seriousness it has never seemed a good fit.

Saves the 'Wilson out' threads that would have started to appear
       by mid October, anyway!
I think it's about time the head coach role was given to Nick
       Evans.

I can't say it's a surprise. Wishing him the best, obviously not
against England, but how can the club let this happen, just
before the start of the season!
It will be interesting to see how the coaching set-up is going
to evolve, and or if there will be a full-time replacement for
       Wilson!
Bad timing, but potentially a good time for Nick Evans to step
       up?!

surely the club had an idea this was in the pipeline and have
       been planning accordingly ?

He must have known for some time, and sort of sums him up as
person, really no loss, also if he is the best that Wales can
do, they are in a even worse place than I thought.
Will be interesting to see what happens now.
Wales will no doubt have a Three year defence plan, so he can’t
be blamed until 2028 for how many points they concede.
Jumped before he was pushed I reckon.

He's such a balanced runner as well!!!! 😉
Well, that will please quite a few fans, now to see what they
do. As QJ says above maybe time to bump nEV up and let a new
attack structure form. Timing is awful though.
