The final round of pool games was less competitive than we'd
hoped. with Australia, Ireland and South Africa all struggling
to dent England, NZ and France's armour respectively.
The QFs throw up some interesting combinations, though.
NZ should beat SA comfortably, but the one area where Ireland
had a slight edge was the scrum and the Springbok Women are a
better scrummaging side than Ireland (and dismantled the Black
Ferns' second string's pack in the warm ups). NZ have also been
the leakiest of the top 4 sides in terms of points conceded per
       tackle made)
France stepped it up a gear against the Bok Women, and Ireland
didn't score a point against NZ, but the latter game was
actually closer than the scoreline implied. In the stadium, it
felt that Ireland were tantalisingly close to breaking the
Ferns' line on a regular basis but NZ just managed to hold onto
a leg or a shirt and bring them down - and two scores in the
last minute buffed up the scoreline. If Ireland have Aoife Wafer
back, they could give France some trouble. They are also the two
teams that know each other best.
Australia kept England under pressure until the end of the first
half, but couldn't sustain the pace. Canada have had a similar
profile in a lot of their recent games - they are really good in
the first half but lack a bit of depth. It's a contrast in
styles, too: if Australia can hold out against Canada's forwards
for long enough, their backs may have a chance to get into the
       game later on.
Scotland were by far the best performers in the last pool round,
though they still finished 21 points behind Canada. I can't see
them beating England but I'd not bet against them scoring some
       good tries.
My guess for order of competitiveness, from least to most, would
       be:
       - NZ v SA... unless handling conditions are poor, in which case
       it could get interesting
       - Eng v Sco
       - Can v Aus
       - Fra v Ire

Will get fun in the next round Canada v New Zealand will be a
battle, and who will England play at 15 against Scotland, will
it be the better Rowland or will he play sing and keep Rowland
       on the bench.

Ugo mentioned on the BBC pod that Mitchell is unlikely to play
Sing after this game so why play her in this game. Let Rowland
gel with the wings so that she is ready for the harder tests to
       come.

Have to agree, I'd go with Rowland. As good as Sing has been in
the league, she hasn't transferred it to the national side as
yet. Rowland has looked good and if Harrison starts to go a bit
erratic off the boot, she can step up.

There's also the option of Aitchison instead of Harrison. The
complaints about Saturday seem to be that the attack was so
clunky, Hollie would hopefully fix that.

Well I must say I have been enjoying the tournament, despite the
matches not always being competitive. The spirit that comes
across from players and crowd alike is palpable. I'm very much
looking forward to going to the semi's in Bristol with my adult
daughter. So glad I took her and her brother to mini rugby back
in the day. It's instilled a love of the game in both of them
(and all three of us will be at HQ for the final).

I don’t think that Sing is good enough at international level,
seems to be poor in defence and make numerous mistakes, the
Wales team had a lot of Gloucester Hartpury players and they
were awful, plus of course the ex coach of GH.
So the same you can be good for your club does not mean you will
be good at international level rule applies as in the men’s
game, would have been better to have taken Mia Venner from GH as
she can play fullback wing and 9.

Something that has been interesting with the Red Roses so far is
that there is a definite bias to which side they attack. Breach
has played all games and has seen a lot of the ball with play
overwhelmingly towards her. Whereas neither Moloney-MacDonald
nor Dow have been as involved. But whether this is a deliberate
ploy or a result of the opposition focusing on Breach as a
       perceived weakness I don't know?
