The original reason they went to regions was to be competitive
in Europe and there was not the financial resources available to
make the clubs competitive, also I suppose the same rationale
exists for the URC and how would they choose which clubs entered
it.
The two regions plan seems bound to happen the question is are
they new entities or existing regions, and all the questions
that go with that.
Also how does the URC fill the two gaps that will appear in it.

The being competitive in Europe certainly hasn't worked so where
do the Welsh go from here? Down from 4 clubs to 2 clubs then
from 2 clubs to 1 club then...........

I am not really sure to be honest where they go,the regional
system was never going to work in Wales but that is easy to say
after the event.
The big problem is around getting people to support the two
regions and how they set them up, but are two regions going to
get enough fans and the URC does not do welll for travelling
fans, and with less Welsh region v Welsh region matches that
could be even less fans.
This is last chance saloon for Welsh rugby and all comes down to
if hardcore fans will support the two regions.

They will always support the 2 regions well if they are playing
English teams.

And again that would be the only way i could see a healthy
regional system by playing in the prem, but that is not going to
happen as they would be playing in a RFU sanctioned competition.
And would the English clubs want them, they are locked into the
URC and god knows where the two replacment teams will come from,
and will there be any travelling support, and will there be huge
travel costs like playing in south africa.
I would like to play welsh teams, but only on a level playing
field in wage and funding terms, which is very difficult to
achieve.
