What, you mean that endlessly selecting underperforming players
based on historical performances, and moving top players out of
position, doesn't strike fear into opponents? 🤔

One thing that's rarely mentioned about SA and NZ in relation to
RWC wins - NZ have won 3 of the 10 they were involved in, a 30%
success rate. sA have won 4, but only appeared in 8, giving a
50% success rate.

Having Andre cover back row? Isn't that same as the "ridiculous"
idea of Earl/Dombrandt covering centre?

He was one of their better performers, though that dropped ball
killed them off at the end.
Perhaps less time "innovating" gimmicks and more time spent
focusing on how to counter breakdown threats, how to run a
lineout, and how to, erm, persaude Fassi / Libbok / Willemse not
to repeatedly mess up on both sides of the ball would have been
more effective. Still, SA are irritatingly good at turning
things round rapidly so as embarassing as it will be for them to
get hammered at home after being up 22-0, I doubt they'll lose
many more in this championship.

Nevertheless, in the meantime we can all have a good laugh about
it.

Bizarre game, but superb turnaround by Aus. The Boks were
coasting in the first half, and almost seemed to think it was
too easy. I had a few shouts at a couple of refereeing
decisions, but the team just imploded. I thought Andre was very
good, and can't understand why Libbok was kept on. A few guys
badly dented their reputations out there today, and I'm sure
their egos too. Rassie will fix it, for sure. The players can't
afford to play that badly as the competition for places is
immense.
Aus blew them away in the second half, fair and square. It would
be easy to gripe about a couple of intercepts, and a few bad
penalties given up at crucial moments. But that wouldn't do
justice to the Wallabies, who turned things around in a manner
that historically only the French did. Fair play to them. They
deserved that.
That said, I'd rather get hammered at this stage of the RWC
cycle than when it really matters, and I think next week will
see a very different result - and likely a very different XXIII
too.
