The Guinness Harlequins incoming.....😁
My daughter is up there at Uni and attends a few of their games
and she's delighted........for them of course. The allegiance is
still quartered

I don't think anything will change this year, other than
Newcastle picking up a few extra players who are in the
Championship or were released and still looking for clubs.
But when the new set of contract renewals come up I can see a
bit of movement up there, particularly anyone who is just below
international standard but a more than solid club player. Some
Scots like DVDM might be encouraged to move down as well.
Aussies like Pietsch and Gamble could also be in line this
season after rugby championship.
Where I think we will really see the ambition and effect could
be after the World Cup and some big name Kiwis taking sabaticals
in the North-East rather than Japan.
Having looked at the squad page, I'd be worried about Beard and
Cunningham-South

They won’t be relegation fodder that’s for sure

This year will be a holding year, all the players they have
signed except the Argentine 9 are on 1 year contracts.
Also remember they still have to conform with the wage cap, and
that red bull want to make a profit out of any business they
run.
So they will struggle to sign big name players as they still
won’t be able to pay more than French and Japanese clubs.
They will have a sound medium to long term plan in mind, now
where have we heard that before.

I suspect that if they recruit a lot of players, that it will
take them a bit of time to settle in.
They will probably set their target to be to avoid relegation in
the next season and then build over the next seasons.
I could easily imagine that some of the non-playing areas (i.e.
not the players) need some substantial investment.
E.g. do they have good training facilities? When about the
back-room staff - e.g. physios and s+c, etc?
They will probably need to re-build all these parts if they have
been running on a shoe-string budget for some years.

That could coincide with year three of Wilson's three-year plan.
Or is that year two? Or has he covertly changed it to always be
year one? Not surprising that no one has ever told us which it
is (to my knowledge). Let's hope there's some plan, even if it's
to win the relegation play-off.

We were the NEC Harlequins.
Guinness will hold out for Irish, we may have to make do with
Watneys.

Are we going to start using the French Republican calendar then,
at least no mention of year zero.

I don't think either Newcastle or Quins will need to worry about
relegation as I suspect there won't be any. Whether they let one
or two teams up from the Champ is another question.
