Well done to the Lionesses - it was an exciting shoot out and
       some great saves from Hampton.

I would suggest out that Mr Charlton and his comrades showed a
higher level of skills and entertainment.

       Not what it is about.
A knighthood, or damehood for women, is awarded for major
contributions to any activity, usually at a national level, that
are seen as inspirational and significant. These contributions
often require long-term commitment and inspire others in the
recipient's field. While historically tied to military merit,
knighthoods now recognise achievements in various fields,
including the arts, sciences, education, and business.

You’re not comparing the same thing. Anyway I don’t remember
them winning back to back titles and being the first England
football team to win a major tournament on foreign soil. Or the
manager making five world and European finals.

As previously stated, that's not comparing the same thing.
Anyway, it's irrelevant. The uber hype has begun.
