It’s a tough one, he does seem favoured. But he does seem also
to end up on the wrong side of Lady Luck a few times, ruled out
tries etc, plus giving away pens having tries chalked off. Those
will stick more in the neutrals mind and will always generate
the “how many times has he had to impress” type comments from
critics.
With Willis, Earl and Barbeary on the radar it’s a competitive
too. Pollock may feature more for 8 for Saints with Augustus
going so interesting decisions ahead

Dombrandt was busy during the game and was doing a lot of the
right things - but none of it seemed to come off. One thing he
seems to struggle with at international level is timing - he is
picking good lines, but seems to drop a lot of passes because
he’s fractionally ahead of where the passer is aiming.
Ironically, the game where he got it right was the pre-RWC loss
to Wales after which he was dropped.
Oddly, Beard had a similar problem - he took at least two passes
to the face last night.

That suggests an issue with composure to me. He might be too
desperate to perform knowing that he probably won't be getting
many more chances. But that's just conjecture.

Hopefully Lukes performance at 13 should send a message to our
set up he isn't the 12 we should be banking the season on. On
that topic, the lack of noise on any recruitment, particularly
at loosehead is very concerning.

Morrisey, Marr, Ford & Farrell at 10. I don't doubt the
abilities of the FFs but if we continue with them in the set up,
we'll end up in a situation whereby there is not enough recent
experience in their replacements. Just look at the wales side
who have all had to sit behind multiple players achieving 80+
caps and now having to learn on the job with other newbies
around them. 1 win in 19 later and they're still struggling. If
The Smith's were average I could understand it but I'd rather
look forward to next two WCs without being in a situation where
the 10s were both 30+ caps and used to working on plays
together.

The Welsh stayed with the old guard because the next generation
is just not very good, Ford played this tour because he is the
form 10 in England at the moment and the rankings mattered for
the next RWC.
There is not really a stand out 10 apart from the Smiths who is
next in line to play for England, but there will be, if you are
good enough players fit into test rugby quickly, if you are not
good enough, you are not good enough.
Region based systems don't best help to develope talent in
depth, club based systems do.

Good spot. To me it seems to be the same issue that the Saints
boys have with Marcus - "we don't know how to keep up with him".
When you're used to playing high speed committed attack it's
hard to reign it back in to play a percentage game.

Sorry RC, I wasn't criticising Ford for being on the tour, he
should have absolutely been there. My point was his good form
and pedigree shouldn't mean he's a shoe in for the 10 shirt,
when you have younger talent available who can take England to
the the next two world cups rather than one who may take you to
the next one.
I'm not gonna lie to you, the welsh system and it's issues are
not a subject I'm an expert on but from what I've read and heard
on Podcasts, players are saying that the lack of depth provided
by Gatland in the national side meant that when that golden
generation retired, they had to step in and didn't have the
experience. There was even a barb about being more focussed on
the Lions than the welsh squad.
