No smoke without fire. Sure, innovation should be applauded but
if everybody else starts " innovating" the game I know and love
will be gone forever. SA's approach is a purely win at all
costs, which is fine as long as the traffic light says blue.

I don’t know why SA have to do this sort of thing. It’s not like
they’re not beating everyone anyway and need another angle to
come from. Unless it’s only being done for the attention it
brings. Which works well.

but it's always been the situation if you know you've got a
killer lineout then you just hoof the ball as far up the field
and out as you can. You know you're likely to win the lineout.
When did moves like that suddenly become well beyond the pale?
If you know you've got a killer scrum and can engineer a scrum
happening, then if you don't do this particular action, your
scrum half can "accidentally" knock on, throw the ball forward
or whatever.

Not necessarily win at all costs. They've also produced some of
the most exciting play we've seen in recent years, thanks to the
squad mix and the tactics.

The expression "fine margins" is often used. This was not much
more than a training game for the Boks, so why not try out a few
new things? The top teams are very close to each other, so they
look at ways in which to gain an extra edge. I recall the ABs
having a special kit design where the ball was less likely to
slip against the shirt, making it slightly less likely to be
lost in contact. Were people up in arms about that? Or how about
the same ABs seemingly giving away vast numbers of penalties in
the red zone, rather than concede a try? There was a time when
line-out jumpers weren't lifted. Any uproar when it became the
norm?

No one remembers it until it’s proven some people remember it?
If you move the goalposts too far you’ll be in the Thames.

You're right. How about. "Hardly anyone remembers it, and it's
hardly likely that more than a few people even care".
In other news, one cannot say that "nobody on the planet has
teeth growing through their eyelids" unless every single person
has been checked and verified.
Alternatively, accept that the phrase "nobody remembers it" is
used figuratively.

Yes, nobody ever got cross about the all blacks perceived
cheating. It's just poor old SA.
