South Africa's latest gimmick

They want a scrum as soon as possible in their game against
Italy. So, they deliberately kick the kick off less than ten
metres! Justice is, however, served as the referee gives Italy a
free kick for South Africa shoving early.

If I thought someone had deliberately done that, I might give a
penalty.
I would certainly remind the receiving teal of their options.
As receiving captain, I may well choose to have them kick again.

And you know it was deliberate... how?

The kick went about two yards and was caught by a Bok following
up. The camera cut to a shot of Erasmus smirking.

What did you think of the Lions' ploy when Marcus deliberately
kicked the ball dead?

The recipient was ahead of the kicker so offside and penalty to
Italy.

I suspect - but I don't know - that the part about "not coming
off" was when the kick was too short. As I say, I don't know -
unlike others here, I'm not psychic.

Clearly a deliberate infringement to force a scrum. I think
they'll be lucky to get away with that a second time. A ref
would be justified in awarding a pen maybe for offside, but also
for a deliberate infringement, which would stop this tactic dead
in its tracks.

Can Italy cite Erasmus, the captain and the kicker?
It is not bloodgate, but that is admitting you deliberately
cheated.
