Farrells

May 7th:
AF: There'll be uproar if I pick you tomorrow, but we always
lose a 10, centre, or fullback through injury so stay close to
your phone - I don't want to have to pick a Paddy or Jock even
if they'll only be a couple of hours away! As for the Taffs.....
OW: Might it help if I avoid the Argentina trip?
AF: That's my boy! Can you hook?

OF: Dad. I could go back to Saracens. They seem to like me. But
the pay's not what it used to be. It would be better if I could
boost my income like I used to.
AF: Son, take the deal and don't worry. Just don't play any
rugby and something will crop up I'm sure.

AF: What you need, son, to re-energise your international career
and enable you to be paid lots of money until you're well into
your 40s, is to be signed by a top European side (like Racing
92), which will enable you to showcase your unique talents.
OF: I just tried that, Dad, and it didn't work out too well. No
one in France recognises world-class talent like you. What can I
do?
AF: Hold on, son! I've just had an idea! Can you cover wing,
outside centre, and full back?

Funny thing is that if the criteria for his selection was:
PROS - 3 times lions tourist, 100+ caps, experience of a lions
winning tour
CONS - played single figure games in 2025, injury hit, poor
form.
Leigh Halfpenny actually fits the exact same criteria and he
covers 15 so actually replaces Daly.
Get him on the plane!

I see your thinking but you forget that Leigh has to be ruled
out. Unfortunately he's actually picked up a rugby ball in the
last 2 months.

David Campese slams ‘weak’ Owen Farrell pick

> The other question I have to ask is what message is this
sending out to the likes of Marcus and Fin Smith? Finn Russell
is already established, and he’s the probable Test option, but
why take two brilliant young tens and then bring a 33-year-old
who hasn’t played an international for almost two years into a
functional and stable team?
>
> You then have to look at styles; Owen is a kicking flyhalf,
and I want to be clear, at his prime, one of the very best of
that type. So far, the Lions have played some lovely handling
and carrying-based footy. In point of fact, they’ve been bang
average in their aerial game, which adds further cloud over this
call.
"Owen Farrell is on his way to join
up with the British and Irish Lions, prompting an outpouring of
shock and one overwhelming question. Why?"
"It makes no sense. It is a staggering call-up with profound
implications. First, the 33-year-old is on his way to fill the
void left by the injured Elliot Daly, but the England back wears
11, 13 or 15 and Farrell Jnr wears 10 or 12.
"The suspicion is he was always destined to be summoned, once
any back beyond the scrumhalves was sent home."
