The team sometimes made daft decisions.
Eg. With a player on a yellow card (it hadn't yet been upgraded)
they choose to kick a penalty at the sticks (and missed).
Why not put the ball into the corner and try a catch and drive.
You don't need a winger for that. And, it winds the clock down
by a few minutes.

playing. Devoid of ideas and if I’m being honest the subs
overall didn’t have an overall positive impact, much like the
other games we went on to lose. It feels like with SB he has a
plan pre game and it must be stuck to, without playing what’s in
front of you. Until we get rid of that mentality we won’t
achieve much and I wouldn’t bet against a series loss to the
Argies. The kicking the ball away constantly was just
infuriating, as when we ran with it we didn’t look atrocious

England have played badly once the bench is emptied for years.
Luckily there have been periods when we were good enough to have
won the game by then.

Just shows how inflexible SB can be. Sometimes with the subs
made it’s like he’s contractually obliged to give them minutes,
rather than being what’s needed. Add in the tactics usually once
at 60 minutes and if we are infront by less than a converted try
with 10 to go, you’d normally back the oppo.

I think the use of the subs was fine. It was exactly the sort of
match to give debuts to a couple of players and game time to
everyone, as opposed to the sometimes pointlessness of bringing
somone on at 78 mins. Plus England appeared to be on the way to
a comfortable win. I'd blame the players more than the coach for
losing the game.

This is still a large part of it. For me one of the biggest
problems for England is the lack of real leaders I think of the
ones on the field yesterday George is probably the best. But for
those experienced players still left at the end, Ford and Slade
in particular they hardly made a compelling case for the Argies,
although I suspect both will still start

Well yeah, most of the 'leaders' are with the Lions. Ford's a
shoe-in, and should be. Slade - I think everyone feels the same
way. Perhaps he's a steadying hand or calm, mature influence;
but he's still noticeably error prone and dies with the ball too
often.

So maybe have Slade on the bench, to come on and be that calming
influence, if you have to include him. Atkinson looked good and
was trying stuff, so give him Beard who can defend and run off
of him, rather than a tan with a decent left peg. Other 13s are
available...

Or better still somewhere else to be calming influence, he never
made the step from U20's flyhalf to senior level flyhalf even at
club level,so became a a default 13, flys out of the line in
defence and is not really a danger in attack.

Let's hope not as I seem to recall you suggesting that's how the
England team should be selected.
😁
[EDIT: Actually I think it was the Lions, rather than England.]
