Funnily enough this topic has reared its head on the Facebook
       group.
Reacting to the disappointing news Wilson is returning after his
       Wales secondment:
Fan A: It’s Ok everyone we are top of the social media charts
       and have fireworks
Fan B: hey that online clout justifies being the most expensive
       season ticket.. somehow
The point being whilst not a complete reflection of the
majority, it’s clear beyond the pessimists like me that it’s a
growing frustration within the club and hopefully the powers
that be are reading the room

I always go to Facebook first for any opinion.
Everything on there is rational and fair.

It’s irrelevant really what platform it’s on, as it’s an online
platform with fans exchanging opinions, and probably on a larger
scale than here with interactions. It would be disingenuous to
think it’s some lesser valid form of fan opinion. I’d say the
major different would be age, whilst I’m in mid thirties I get
the opinion the average age on here is probably more than that.

On the contrary - it is hugely relevant.
Many engagements on Facebook are either from
       1. Bots that are using large language models to gather
engagement (it is pretty easy to generate responses for Facebook
       threads)
       or
       2. People in China/Russia elsewhere who are using stolen
identities to post under multiple noms de plume to build
       engagement databases

I think it would be a mistake to assume opinions on the Quins
Facebook page are largely bots, Chinese or otherwise.

Precisely, bizarre take. Only need to look at most of the
replies to see they are genuine fans. The "Harlequins Fans
Group" page has some good discussions on, and lets just say some
are closer to my opinions than others on here!

I never supported Harlequins because I thought they were going
to win anything. I never supported Harlequins because the
product was "value for money". I supported Harlequins because
they were my local team, a good day out, an excuse for a meet up
with my brother for a beer and a chat, something to get me out
the house. A day out at the Stoop is really not much more than
at Franklin's Gardens for much the same experience. (Except if
you thought getting out the car park to the A316 was
       problematical...!).

I often work in internet security.
And I do get dragged into projects regarding
       AI/chatbots/voicebot/etc.
And - I have been involved in engaging with Meta regarding use
       of data.
My starting position is that you can't trust anything or anybody
       on social media.
Even the most innocuous engagement may just be harvesting your
information to enhance the info on your customer profile.
Sometimes, you look at profiles for fans and see that something
doesn't add up. E.g. the university they went to doesn't match
their job or their location. E.g. they went to medical school
but now work as a bus driver.
Often you will see fans who aren't listed in the local area.
Now, I know that we fans everywhere. But, it can raise
suspicions when they are based in an area that doesn't have a
strong rugby following. Or - little things - e.g. a person is
also a fan of Liverpool FC and Everton - - it could happen, but
       unlikely.
You may be correct -maybe they are all real fans.
But - be careful out there

I think the mentality with all sports fans is that they need the
highs and lows in their lives and the terror of giving up their
living, breathing passion is too much to comprehend. I had a
chat with a Newcastle Utd fan on my way up their a few years
ago, before the Arab buy out, and he was whinging about how
despicable the club was and how they were ripping off fans. I
proffered that if they really want to make a statement don't
renew his season ticket and encourage others to do the same. His
immediate response was "I can't do that as I wouldn't get
another one, due to the waiting list". So he would rather be
ripped off than make a stand. It's a drug and we all need it to
       a degree.
NS is right that there are some clever cookies (pun intended)
out there and they use automation to generate discourse and
arguments, as well as capture information. Just look at Twatbook
since Trump appeared on the scene, but I would also have to say
that there's a lot of good fan driven chat on the socials and,
sometimes, on here as well 😁 and as stated before, if
you buy a ticket, you have the right to make your views known on
the quality of what you get for that outlay.
