       Quins 2024/25 season summary
   DIR By: euroquin

OK, here's a personal view of 2024/25 for Quins.
       Positives
       - league double over Sarries
       - 24-7 win over Glasgow in the ECC
       - development of Waghorn and Benson; arrival of Isgro
       - the off-the-field developments, notably the financial
       situation
Acceptable par for the course results
       - home and away wins over Exeter and Newcastle
       - home win over Gloucester
       - wins over weakened selections: Saints at home, Stormers at
       home in the ECC
       - ECC last 16
       Disappointing
       - close losses away at Sale and Saints, home to Bath
       - draw in the Big Game against Tigers
       - no bonus points away at Toulon
       - no TBP home to Exeter
       - recruitment and retention overall
       - injuries
       - coaching
       - 7th place in the Prem with negative win/loss record and -40
       points difference
       Unacceptable
       - nilled at Gloucester
       - limp defeat at a very poor Racing
       - 24-48 home to Bristol
       - 47-28 away at Bath
       - 29-43 home to Sale
       - 40-7 away at Leicester
       - 52-26 away at Bristol
       As bad as it gets
       - 62-0 at Leinster
       Summary
       - worst season since 2017/18's shambles got JK the sack. Poor
overall results with far too many shockers. A notable decline in
attacking verve and entertainment without any particular
       improvement in defence.

Pretty good summary, thank you. I would put 7th place in the
Prem in the "unacceptable" category. It's better described as
'third from bottom'. Given the disaster that was Newcastle and
Exeter for most of the season, that is almost as good as
finishing last out of the teams in contention. I would love to
hear how Wilson talks himself out of this one. He must have the
gift of the gab. When does the three-year plan start again?

I think it starts again every year.

Irrelevant as I think we're still in the rolling one year
       appraisal stage.

       Fair assessment.
We were fourth best on defence but only 8th for points scored.
Watching the semi finals the level of power and intensity was a
league up from where we were this season.
On individual games Bristol were excellent against us. We got
them on one of their best days. The win at Spurs against Sarries
was my highlight.I thought we did very well to score four tries
at home to Sale considering we were being mashed. Also came
       close to scoring three more.
I thought we were reffed out of a victory against Leicester in
       the big game.
So we can compete but not always consistently. i think as others
have said throughout the season we need more power in midfield
       especially 12

If you are including everything, which you are as you mention
       the "off the field" stuff.
You should also mention that the women had a pretty good season.

Fair summary overall. My overall negative feeling about the
season is driven by the frequent listlessness of the players and
lack of discernable playing style. Leinster, Leicester and
Gloucester away defeats some of the worst I can remember. I
don't think the 3 year plan chat helps anyone either.
That we had the 4th best defence is staggering but there you go.
Shows how bad the attack was at times.

The season was really disappointing, and since the famous three
year plan has never been made public, and we really have no idea
what it is beyond developing academy players and breaking even
financially and using the foundation to reach out to
disadvantaged young people in the area, and that is really just
extrapolating statements and guessing, who knows what the
       ownership are content with.
We seem to be relying on other clubs getting weaker, a
substantial jump in performance from younger players and better
       luck with injuries.
And perhaps having some sort of shape in attack and knowing what
style of rugby we want to play, might be a plan.

The complete lack of rumours that we have any more quality
players coming in to the men’s squad is either masterful PR
management by Quins or very concerning too. Season started off
OK and then burned but even the good performances were often too
close for comfort. Maybe 40 something years of support is
tiring me out but I’d love an announcement to get excited about
(much as Titi getting picked for Samoa obviously made my week).
