Noah Heward makes his long-awaited return from injury while
Argentina international Pedro Rubiolo makes his Bristol Bears
debut in Saturday’s Round 18 Gallagher Premiership clash with
Harlequins at Ashton Gate (3.05pm KO, live on TNT Sports).
Pat Lam’s side know victory will secure their place in
Play-Offs, as the Bears Director of Rugby selects the returning
Heward – who hasn’t featured since January – at full back in the
absence of the injured Rich Lane.
Pumas lock Rubiolo, who joined the club on loan from Newcastle
Falcons in December to complete his injury rehabilitation ahead
of a permanent switch in the summer, makes his first appearance
in the league since November, with James Dun ruled out.
Prop Yann Thomas, who announced his retirement from the game at
the end of this season earlier this week, starts at loosehead in
his final appearance at Ashton Gate, alongside Gabriel Oghre and
fellow Bristolian George Kloska.
Fitz Harding captains the side from the openside flank, with
Santiago Grondona and Viliame Mata completing the back row.
Among the replacements, there’s a return for Steven Luatua,
Harry Thacker and Jack Bates.

Marcus just being rested which in my opinion is absolutely fine.
Imagine he gets crunched by Mata and breaks his collar bone or
something. Unlikely of course but given where we're at in the
season I think it's fair enough and gives him a well earned
break to focus on the Lions tour. Also a good opportunity to
give Benson some Prem time from the start.
I'm just disappointed Waghorn has picked up an injury as any
game time for him at 12 is really useful.

Saints not starting any players who started the Champions Cup
final.
Gloucester have to be favourites to win that but Sarries likely
to run up a cricket score, which they'll need as they're 44
points behind.
And if Bristol beat us, obviously none of the above matters.

Do the rules allow them to do that? Basically, it's throwing the
game. I suspect Salarysins rivals for top 4 will not be amused.

I'm not sure there's anything in PRL's regulations about it, and
if there is it isn't enforced.
It's not even the first time it's happened this season; Bath and
Saints both rested their first team squads 3 weeks ago as part
of their preparations for their Euro finals. It's also happened
in previous seasons but I can't remember any details,
unsurprisingly.

Great to see Porter and Benson start
As it said in the Times today “ Blew the potential chance by not
going for TBP” so what’s to play for, let’s see what some
different combos can achieve

The issue with losing though is that we will have to listen to
MQ banging on all the way through the off season.
We do seem to get a temporary respite from him when we win.
