I guess the question is - if you are a coach and you had the
option of being the head coach of any team - then
Are you better being the head coach for Leinster or Connacht ?
Leinster have a great squad and "should" win everything. So,
anytime they don't get a trophy is a big failure.
So - the job at Leinster is just maintaining their position.
On the other hand, a team that is towards the bottom is a team
that you have the opportunity to improve. You may not win
silverware, but you can have a far bigger impact.
E.g. maybe you can get to be in the battle to be the 2nd best
       Irish team.

So that is Wilson’s plan! Make us really bad so we can then be
a bit better and he can say he’s had an impact. This is genius.

I can't imagine many coaches think that way. Coaches tend to be
come across as being as ambitious as players and I can't see a
player opting to play for a less good team so they can stand
       out.
Put another way, I'd imagine Diamond wouldn't take long to leave
Newcastle if the Toulouse job was offered.

There was a comment from Ashton about our recruitment vs our
leavers. I can’t recall it exactly but it basically echoes our
thoughts of lacking ambition. Our squad is weaker season on
       season since 2021.

I'd tend to agree with you but weaker or not I find it
increasingly difficult to believe we are spending anywhere near
the salary cap. And if we are we're not getting good value for
       it.

Have other sides strengthened in that time? Covid hit everyone,
remember, and with the salary cap changes and the last of the
Covid contracts, most sides have shrunk / lost a lot of big
       players.
It would be interesting to see how everyone matches up during
that time for incoming and outgoing players.

The cap is a complicated thing. If we were to sign an important
player season after next we would have to make sure we had
space. This could mean leaving that space for a season as
contracts overlap. I would hope that if we haven’t signed
anybody significant this season that maybe we have next season.
       Availability dependent.
