Purely being devils advocate you have to consider the increased
cost of re-signed players. Baxter, CCS, Beard etc will all be on
much more money. Pettit will it have been cheap, starting 2nd
row for Bordeaux would have been on a lot of money.

       Well, since you ask…
What DW said at the State of Play evening was that they wanted
to move back towards homegrown players making up the core of the
team. The club has renewed 8 academy players this week as well,
and looking at the list of who is due a contract but hasn’t yet
been mentioned, several players are likely to graduate to the
senior squad in the coming weeks.
It looks like the hiring policy is geared towards recruiting
players who won’t be too expensive but have a few years of
playing time left, presumably to give time for the emerging
       players to come through.
And then the chances are that we have a few long term COVID
contracts that are coming to an end and where we would be over
the cap if we didn’t release some players.

Yes but if you get a diamond in the rough from the Academy you
have to start paying proper money so, at best, you get 1 year
out of it at Academy money?

On the flip side, whilst they're in the academy you get extra
revenue from sending them up chimneys, out on paper rounds etc?
It used to work with the YTS scheme... 🤔

Of the leavers, confirmed or rumored the biggest loss is Jibulu.
Other than that, no one else going really is "the one that got
away" so to speak where we will be regretting letting them go. I
think Joseph could flourish though at 13 for Glaws now that
       Harris is going.
Players like Wyn Jones, Lamb, Hammond are all good players and I
would have been happier retaining them, but none of them are
irreplaceable (and lets face it feature for us in a limited
capacity so I don't think we will really miss them).
They key though is replacing the good squad players, with, good
squad players who ideally aren't the wrong side of 29+. Els is a
solid third choice but we will need a good loose head to be a
starter for a bulk of the season Baxter is probably away with
England, but I feel Obano will be in the mix at least for a
recall after a good season for Bath.

       Jibulu may struggle at Sale.
From what I can see, they have 4 hookers in the squad. (Although
I don't know if any are leaving).
So, he will be in the position of fighting for a starting place.
Otherwise, he would be consigned to Prem Cup games, etc.
@Yareet - what is your view? Do you think he will get game time?

This year we've had LCD, Taylor, Caine and MacIlroy. However,
Taylor has barely played this season (if at all) due to injury
and officially announced yesterday that he has retired. MacIlroy
was injury cover (for Taylor, I believe) until the end of this
season and I don't think has yet been re-signed for 2025/6.
Caine is coming through from the academy and I think has had 15
minutes this season (and is injured). For tonight's game we have
Alfie Longstaff making his debut. He's 20 😱
To add to all of that, LCD will be out for the first few weeks
of the season on Lions standdown.
tl;dr we have 2 retained senior hookers for next season and one
is pretty unproven so yeah, I'd imagine Jibs will be used a fair
       amount

Hopefully his lineout throws next season when playing against us
are as good as they were last Saturday :-)
