Adam Bishop, erstwhile S&C coach and Strongman competitor, used
to say Dino was the strongest player we had and that must have
been a few years back so he will only have got bigger and
stronger. A real loss I think given his age profile and standard
of play (when fit).

The last two words are the issue. Doesn't matter how strong or
good he is if he doesn't play.

I think Dino would be a loss. I've heard it said that he's a
freakish athlete, and he certainly does well when he plays.
Injuries aside, he's a great option. Irne will be a loss as he's
been a real diamond in the rough, but I understand the desire
for a payday and an easier life at his age, given his playing
style. In pure playing terms, I think Launch offers the least of
all our locks. Lewies is a great asset, but rarely seems fit,
unfortunately; the value for money is questionable IMO. Hammond
doesn't seem to me to have the makings of a very good lock; he
puts in the effort but at present seems to lack the bulk and the
impact.
The new guys coming in will hopefully add some ballast and we
need that. I'd rather not sign up a big name at lock; much
better to find another Irne. There are more like him in SA, and
also in Argentina and Georgia. The pay differential would make a
move more attractive, and they'll have a hunger to prove
themselves.

Who says we are making any more signings? The only rumours I知
aware of are about people leaving.

No idea. My post was more generalised, and my ideal scenario
would be to offload Lewies, Launch and possibly Hammond, whilst
keeping Dino and Irne, and bringing in a big unit who hits rucks
and makes yards in the loose, whilst shoring up the scrum.
Nothing too flashy. Maybe a Bakkies Botha type :)

As I said on another thread, of Dino and Irne going I would
prefer it to be Dino because of his injury record and time with
Italy. Dino is a great player when fit and available but that is
not often recently. If Irne's deal is off, then hopefully the
club will offer him an extension because as others have said he
has been a diamond in the rough.

Lewies received a new deal a few months back (December 2024)

Typically we do announce some signings later. Sometimes to
coincide with how sales of season tickets are going.
So, I wouldn't be massively surprised if there were a few
announcements before the new season. E.g. Isgro was announced
just before the start of the season (3rd Sept 2024)
