RFU open to hosting Chelsea at Twickenham

RFU open to hosting Chelsea at Twickenham if Stamford Bridge
redevelopment goes ahead.
The Allianz Stadium could make sense as a temporary home for
Chelsea if forced away temporarily from their west London home.
England’s Rugby Football Union (RFU) would be open to hosting
Chelsea games at Allianz Stadium in Twickenham if the Premier
League club are forced to play away from Stamford Bridge.
Chelsea, owned by a consortium led by Todd Boehly, are
considering proposals for a redevelopment of their west London
ground or a relocation, with talks held over a site in nearby
Earl’s Court as they seek to expand their capacity.
A redevelopment could force the club away from the ground they
have occupied since being formed in 1905, though no decision has
yet been made.

Wow, the announcement that "Chelsea want to play at Twickenham"
gets earlier and earlier every year... [emoji52]
Here's just a couple of the threads where we've hashed through
the issues in the past. Can't see it happening.

Wembley would be the obvious choice anyway, can't imagine the
residents of Twickenham will be too happy having thousands upon
thousands descend virtually every week for two thirds of the
year with road closures

I think that the challenge with letting a team like Chelsea use
the stadium for a year would likely mean that the 6 Nations and
Autumn Internationals would probably need to be moved to another
stadium as I think there would be challenges using the stadium
for both sports (especially during the congested Autumn period).
But, if the did relocate for the AIs, etc, then they would lose
all the f+b and corp. hospitality income.
I assume that they could make a good amount of money from corp
hospitality hosting Chelsea games - but I guess that the f+b
from a game is not in the same league as a rugby match.
But, there is a major logistical hurdle to it happening.
Twickenham train station. I don't see how this can be used for
20 to 30 games a season bearing in mind that both home and away
fans would need to travel through it.

The residents would hate it, but it's not as if Chelsea have
brilliant transport links either. Fulham Broadway doesn't have
any more capacity. I'd guess the way they'd handle it would be
to limit the crowd size for the event. Stamford Bridge is only
40k. I'd also assume that scheduling could be worked out so that
they play away on the days required for rugby. November would be
tricky but the 6N could probably be accommodated pretty easily.
The attraction for the RFU would be a significant boost in
revenue and potentially a reciprocal arrangement to use the new
Chelsea stadium while Twickenham is redeveloped.

They would also have to schedule Quins games away from any clash
of fixtures with Chelsea as well.

Wouldn't football at HQ require a separate Local Authority
license to that issued for rugby? Couldn't see York House
agreeing that given the noise it would make ahead of local
elections next year.

On the plus side, it might stop Karen from Whitton from moaning
about the crowds from the home 6 nations matches when Chelsea
move back
