I know it maynot be a popular couple of observations but:
1. Isnt it the last 3 HCs that have apparently 'lost' the
dressing room?
2. Havent NE & AJ been involved during that period?
Now Im not saying the players are wrong, BUT, they also need to
take some responsibility for the performances as they are the
ones on the paddock....

Very fair points and many fans have said they want someone a bit
tougher to come in and add some steel to our team. I suspect
Marler would react negatively to anyone having a view that he
doesn’t agree with - and said he himself was unpopular by the
time he left. Not sure how much I read into his social media
comments. But I also don’t see what Wilson adds and, where Nev
and Jones seemed to be developing nicely as coaches, even their
impact appears to have reduced over the last year. To take that
squad, the resources available and the up and coming coaching
talent we seemed to have two years ago and put this season
together staggers me. Maybe a miracle will happen but I’m not
putting money on it.

It's a very competitive league (bar Bath) and there are at least
7 teams who'd argue they should be 2nd to 4th not least as there
is a bigger gap from 1st to 2nd than there is from 2nd to 8th.
You've won 6 games whilst the team in 2nd has won 8. Quins are
very much part of that chasing pack

I agree with your sentiment that the league is tight, but think
it's the manner of how the games have played out that is the
concern. The regression in our style of play has been quite
shocking. Getting nilled at Gloucester and Leinster, Bristol
putting 50+ past us at home, labouring to victories over
Newcastle and just a general lack of spark in the team suggests
that these are not the early signs of a project that will soon
click, it is just regression. The recruitment has largely been
very poor and uninspiring too.

Sarries lost at Newcastle. Bristol got nilled at home. We got
spanked at Saints and Gloucester.
Nobody’s had the perfect season

I’m going to trust in your optimism Yareet. You have the
benefit of impartially. I’m just fed up watching us not just
lose but get rinsed. I think you’re saying (promising!) we will
definitely win the next four games with bonus points so that’s
good enough for me.

Definitely. But it'll be such a shame when you lose the final to
that Asher drop goal 😈

The interesting thing about Marler's comments this season is
that he very clearly believes our general tactical approach is
completely wrong and we should be asking Marcus & pals to play
their natural game rather than cleaving closely to how England
plays. I do wonder if part of the change in approach is to help
England players & hopefuls with their ambitions but also to make
it easier to reintegrate them when they come back to the club.
If so, total failure, couldn't have gone worse, etc.
Just a theory though, could also just be a deliberate change
based on the turnover strengths of our pack, the lack of
carrying in midfield, and the general defensive frailties that
have dogged us for seasons (although my opinion is that kicking
the ball away makes life harder on that front!)

I agree Jammy.
My impression is that we are relying more on box kicking to play
the game in the right part of the pitch (similar to England's
approach).
But, in (our last game at least) we are failing often for 2
reasons.
1. Lack of our first choice scrum half - Porter's kicking game
is quite different to Danny.
2. Lack of kick chaser. In previous seasons we had Marchant. It
this season we has Isgro and and David. Neither were available.
(I am not sure that Green is tall enough to be a great option
for this.)
On Saturday, every kick just resulted in Sale running the ball
straight back at us and we seemed to lose a few yards with every
kick.
For next season, we need another scrum half (assuming that
Friday is not yet ready) and another winger/centre (or
full-back) who can chase a kick.
Otherwise, we are just depending on Marcus magic.

At the time many thought luring Gustard was a bit of a coup, and
that his background as a heralded defence coach was just what
was needed to make us tougher to besr. Clearly it was a cultural
car crash but did lead to the club rediscovering itself.
This recent history makes the decision to appoint Wilson and
revert to a more attritional style pretty baffling.
I know some don't like the 'attacking DNA' tag line that gets
thrown around, but I do think there is a truth to it. Success
under O'shea (a fullback) and then the gang of four (attack
masterminded by Nev). Kingston, Gustard and Wilson all forwards
or defence coaches by trade and didn't fair so well. Perhaps
just coincidence, but I really would like to see us bringing in
a head coach who is committed to attacking rugby.
