I for one was critical of the selection of Jibulu yesterday but
he showed us what we would be missing & confirmed to Sale that
they had made an astute signing. He had spirit, determination &
scored a superb try.
It is plain to see that Danny Wilson in football parlance has
"lost the dressing room" & the longer that Laurie lets him near
this squad, the worse the results are getting. As previous
contributors have said, he was poor at Glasgow & he hasn't
improved at Quins. The players appear to be playing as
individuals & not as a team. I think that we have a nucleus of a
good team but we need a new leader to pull the players together
& to give them direction.
We will find it difficult to attract new quality players with
our current track record & all hopes of a Top 4 league position
are now gone, especially with the remaining fixtures.
I don't know who we would sign to replace Danny Wilson but
someone at a higher level in Quins has to make a decision
quickly as this situation can't continue. Our claim to be 'The
Entertainers" now looks like a joke.

I’ve made it clear Wilson is a busted flush and I’m glad people
are seeing the light

Barnes in the Times, summed it up nicely :-
Not good enough in Europe, Sale are surging towards the
Premiership semi-finals. Harlequins are a bits-and-pieces team.
You can see the imprint of Sanderson on Sale, but it’s hard to
see where Danny Wilson is taking Harlequins. Sale head home
buoyed by exclamation marks, Harlequins stagger towards the
season’s end, surrounded by question marks.

So Quins appear to be sleepwalking towards a seventh or eighth
place Premiership finish, having been humiliated in Europe. The
question for the management is surely, what the heck is going
on? Surely Quins should be more successful (aka have more
ambition) than that? What is their measure of success and
failure (on-field, I mean)? If Wilson has "sold" them a vision
for a three-year plan, to keep him in the job overseeing this
kind of rubbish performance, then he's a very clever boy! It's
not just the performances, though they are bad enough, it's the
abysmal recruitment (with an honourable exception for Isgro) and
retention as well. A public statement by Laurie is surely
imminent.

He’s had no real success since he left the Wales job the first
time. 10 years ago maybe. No chance now.
I think as a club there’s often a kind of head down a**e up
“believe in the plan” type mentality which clouds clear decision
making. Holding onto players for too long, optimism that things
will come good for too long when it’s obvious they’re not
working. Hard to agree with Stuart Barnes but he’s got a very
fair point. Under Wilson all on the field aspects look
increasingly listless and there’s little to drive much
enthusiasm for next year. Same players making the same mistakes,
doing the same thing expecting different results.
The club is doing a very good job off the field and it
absolutely must continue to do all it can on that front. It’s
mandatory, not either or. But a recruitment of Billy’s
replacement (plus Wilson’s surely) is the most important thing
facing the club this summer.

All good points. I think a lot of Quins fans seem to think the
squad is better than what it is, also putting too much on the
hope the academy churns out another player. Most teams above us
also have good academies but most importantly still bring in
good talent

In terms of our squad not being good enough I’d argue that 3, 10
& 12 are the most important positions for club rugby - we don’t
have a decent 3 and have barely got a 12 (Waghorn has shown
promise but isn’t there yet).
Add to this our 10 has been messed about and seems out of sorts
and it’s no wonder we’re struggling.
I really hope we can reset over the summer, but unless we
recruit well we’ll be relying on Hobson and Waghorn to really
step up.

We’ve recruited a TH. And, although I like Williams, I wonder
if it’s another cheap option for a player that’s older. It’s
been a while since we made a genuinely big statement signing IMO
so I don’t see that changing anytime soon.

In the championship you have Joe Gray and Nick Easter with Quins
connections. Ben Ward at Ealing is clearly doing a good job
there.
Looking north of the border, Franco Smith at Glasgow might want
premiership experience to before getting an international job
and alternatively Gregor Townsend might be coming to the end of
the road with Scotland.
I’ve heard Stephen Jones is also keen to come back to the UK,
currently assistant coach with Moana Pacifica having previously
been attack coach with Wales and was earmarked at Pivacs
replacement before Gatland was parachuted in

Looks like Marler has waded in on the current situation. I
wonder if the current feeling in the squad expedited his
retirement from end of the season to mid season.
