I'm not sure that's workable - that means enlisting an existing
(and on the evidence of this and other messageboards, somewhat
change resistant) audience to create, on average, more than one
new long term fan each to keep the game sustainable. And if you
already have an ageing fanbase, then de facto they are failing
to do that.
It also means that you tend to get new fans who are very like
the old fans, which often means you're tapping into a
demographic that is static or declining - but you're also
ignoring (and even excluding) whole segments of the population
who might respond to a different approach.

I think I can just about describe myself as part of the ageing
audience...only just mind...
When I first went to The Stoop it was wooden seats in a wooden
shack or stand on the hill. That was me and a buddy who had
never played the game but loved the ethos of Rugby. Well, he was
and still is a Tottingham fan so....He lives in Kicking Horse,
Canada now!
When we go to The Stoop these days we take 17 fellow STH's with
us and we all sit together in the Chinless Wonders Stand. I am
the most mature but we have 3 teenagers, a Toddler and now a
babe in arms as well as a pretty even split between Men and
Women.
My work here is done.

And you will get your reward in rugby heaven - but I think most
of the current audience don't manage to contribute 0.1% of the
Stoop's capacity in their own right.

I've personally brought a number of people to matches, and
several continue to attend. If someone introduces one new person
every couple of seasons, there's the number you're looking at.
The difficulty in changing the approach to attract a new
audience is that the new audience (in this case the younger
audience) aren't guaranteed to go off the game, whilst you risk
putting off your existing audience.
When trying to grow a customer base, it's vital not to take the
existing customers for granted.

We had 12 in my group at one point. Started with just my rugby
loving SA wife and myself in 2004/5 expanded to 6 the next
season and then 10 and then 12,. But the gradual changes in life
that happen over time meant that some came as others left and
then as everyone got to kids age it became more difficult and we
started going downhill till it was only 9 then 6, then just my
wife and children and I. The Wuhan flu nonsense was the straw
that broke the camels back and we've not been back as much as
I'd like since. And now apparently you can't get a Season Ticket
for love nor money 🙄
