Decent signing I guess, not the best but not the worst. Longer
term if Hobson does step up and Kerrod hangs around then I would
like to see them consolidate Titi and Williams salaries into one
really good prop, but this will probably do for now.

Yeah, underwhelming - I'd always rather have a proper, gnarly
scrummager to ensure our set piece has a solid foundation than
one that clearly enjoys the loose more. Praying Bomb stays
because we'll need him to do a job here.
Looking for silver linings: if Hobson shows he can scrummage
better (not hard) then he'll prove himself heir to the shirt
much quicker and Williams and Titi could find themselves
fighting it out for the bench spot by the end of next season.
Can't help but feel they're not on small money though - TH props
are not cheap, especially those who have been capped.
I do wonder whether the EQP requirements are making recruitment
much harder in these specialist areas - I'm sure we would have
looked to SA to fill this gap if the rules were what they used
to be...

By the sheer number of penalties he started conceding for Exeter
after the engage laws changed again. The stats were commented
on fairly regularly on TV, and regular watchers would have seen
the evidence themselves.
Quoting the premiership rugby site from 2 years ago after round
20:
"Exeter Chiefs have the weakest scrum in the premiership: they
have won a league low 82% of scrums on their own feed. Harry
Williams - the leagues most penalised player (20, joint top) -
has conceded the most scrum penalties of any player (17)"
Now, I have no idea how he's being doing in France. Maybe facing
bigger front rows has helped him. Maybe the law change is a
coincidence and it was some injury instead that has been
resolved. But in the absence of anything else to go on, I can't
get excited over the prospect of us signing a guy I watched go
from a decent international into being a penalty machine at
scrum time.
HOWEVER: if there is a chance he has become even just slightly
more reliable at scrum time, great. His work ethic was
phenomenal, he really got heavily involved with his carrying
game and was a huge threat close to the line. He puts himself
about in defence as well. It's been a long time since we had a
tighthead who had an impact outside of the scrum and so if his
primary role has improved then this could turn out to be a good
signing. For me it is a huge gamble, though

Collier was not known for his play in the loose at all, and it's
been years since Louw. Alright fair enough I thought it was
longer than it has been.
Louw didn't have the same work rate as Williams generally, but
it was high impact for sure.

Fair enough tbh.
I'd like to think you don't spend two seasons in the Top 14 (and
he's made a good number of appearances) and not be able to
scrummage. Those lads are beasts.
Sinckler was probably the last tighthead we had who was handy
round the park.

When Williams was competing with Sinckler for the England shirt,
I remember him being a decent carrier but wobbly in the scrum -
a quite similar profile to pre-2025 Will Stuart.
I would expect Bomb to be able to sort out his scrummaging given
a season. But it also looks likely that Hobson (who they have
said is already the strongest player in the squad) will make the
transition to 1st team rugby over the next season. If he can
follow a similar trajectory to Baxter, then Titi and Wry Irish
offer decent depth.
