And without wanting to rake over old coals too much, there's a
massive difference between being caught cheating
(unsuccessfully) once in a way that players at the majority the
Prem clubs admitted they had seen used prior to that event, and
systematically breaching the salary cap for the best part of a
decade with umpteen trophies to show for it.
Onyeama-Christie may not have been aware of the cheating, but
coaches with links to Sarries were aware of it for a very long
time before there was enough evidence for them to get dinged. I
remember Dippy saying at the Quinssa dinner in 2013 that he
couldn't talk to his Sarries friends any more because it was so
well known they were cheating, and Gustard openly joked about it
in a State of Play evening (From memory: "What's the difference
in recruting for Quins versus Sarries?" "Well, at Sarries we
didn't have a limit...")
What he may be reacting to, though, was that their first game
after the second points deduction was at the Stoop and ended
41-14, much to the very visible delight of players, coaches and
fans. If I'd lived through that, I might carry a grudge even if
at some level I knew it was an emotional response to a totally
justifiable reaction from the club who just happened to be the
first opponents to benefit from your punishment.

Lots of clubs practice all sorts of gamesmanship and fake
injuries. BUT - the cover up!! That really shocked me. Had not
realised just how awful that was. The lies and denials right up
to the point when Tom Williams eventually told the truth and
they couldn't deny it any more. A doctor and physio had their
careers ruined and the club lost its good name more to do with
the ridiculous cover up. Money and inducements offered to Tom
Williams to take all the blame, lawyers surrounding the club
protecting and sadly, as I admire the bloke , Mark Evans totally
culpable in the cover up. Ugo Monye when asked on the programme
said he would have taken the money from Quins and abetted the
cover up if he had been offered it which I thought said alot
about him.

that I think makes this a scandal. Unfortunately Saracens did
not try and cover up as witnessed by the companies in the names
of the players in plain sight at Companies House so probably the
BBC cant get 6 episodes out of that one.

I agree. I’m on Episode 5 and finding it a bit repetitive and
very long winded. That said, the detailed content on the cover
up is new to me and I’m pleased that I’m persevering with it.
