Well, the existence of this thread, plus this bit you said in
the same post where you called him ordinary:
Fin is "proven" against mediocre teams. He'll be found
out against the best.
Scare quotes around proven, stating he'll be found out against
the best teams. Does seem like you've decided he's not good
enough.

easier to fit into the team than Marcus, but he's also had his
flaws and there is a risk that his performance will dip when
opponents have had more chance to analyse his play and target
his weak spots.

True and when they find weak spots no doubt elements of the
press and SM will dig in to him. I get the sensitivity to the
Marcus criticism though. Stephen Jones’s ridiculous vendetta, a
lot,of criticism based on perceived aspects of his game he
doesn’t do well when it’s often not true and getting the
Cipriani treatment when he hasn’t done any of the daft of the
field stuff that Cips did. I do think sometimes the England 10
is always looked upon as living up to Wilkinson in the eyes of
the press in particular. A rather tough-act to follow.

Apologies if the quotation marks scared you. Maybe find a safe
space?
And I do think he'll be found out against the best teams. It's
an opinion. We're all allowed to have them, if when they don't
align with yours.
But he's a good player, no question about it.

The only comparison between the two that I do find depressing is
the talk of how many tackles fin makes per match. Being a
monster tackler is very low down on my list of attributes for a
top ten. Also, Marcus doesn't shirk tackles. He's certainly not
a strong tackler but not for lack of commitment

Marcus is undoubtedly a better rugby player, but I never got the
impression Steve trusted him. Had he got the chance to close out
the autumn Internationals I should think he'd have been nailed
on 10 for England and the lions. But he didn't, we lost, and
Marcus took the flack.

That’s the problem. Borthwick doesn’t trust him/rate him and
either he’s too cowardly to ditch him outright or he has no idea
what to do with Marcus.
The fast ruck, dominant pack, fast ball would have suited Marcus
but he was stuck in his sacrifice position until Furbank is fit.

Solid. Nothing more.

a couple of tackles - one of them a particularly embarrassing
attempt with his back. He only made 8 passes in total, and 1 run
(which went nowhere). He went missing for chunks of the game and
was outplayed by Ford in his cameo.

Watched (most of) the game back last night (up to Pollock's
first try so F Smith was off by then). To provide some balance:
The "back tackle" was Smith coping with a 3v2. Fin treads water
rather than committing which buys enough time for Earl (?) to
come over. Fin then gets caught in two minds which results in
him half committing and getting spun round. Earl makes the
tackle.
He also missed touch with a penalty.
For comparison, Marcus put the ball out on the full from a
clearance kick. I also chuckled when Marcus took the ball in
the backfield and Care said something like "Here we go!". Only
for Faletau to immediately tackle Marcus. Which just proves that
nobody is perfect. Except Ben Curry 😁

Strange response. I took your opinions at face value, that's
what this entire thread is about. At no point did I try and stop
you from having an opinion, I simply wondered where it was
coming from. Thank you for clarifying.
Scare quotes don't have anything to do with being afraid, btw:

Agreed, and I’d go further - Borthwick needs to get the whole
team to play the Marcus/Quins way

Why? Bath are far and away the best team in the league
