Personally, I want England to continue to do poorly, & maybe
even lose ... so we can get rid of the dreadful SB & his dour
management team.
Short term pain, for long term gain.

A 7:2 bench split against Italy says it all. So little ambition

I think Lawrence and Sleightholme need to finish the tournament
strongly as neither has impressed and for me the next main drop
candidates. The main issue is there does not seem to be a real
out and out 13 on his case so probably has a bit of security. I
think Beard should probably get a run at 13 for us when he
returns as I think he may well get a chance in the Summer tour
though. I thought Spink at Sarries would have had more an impact
as hes probably a player in the mold SB likes, although I think
he has been injured a bit.
For OS I think once Feyi-Waboso returns to fitness he and
Freeman will be the main choices. I wouldn't be against Roebuck
playing against Wales though.

While dropping Marcus Smith to the bench makes a sort of sense,
Steve Borthwick’s selections still feel largely reactive

it is not so much the Fin vs Marcus debate as the confused and
confusing approach of the England coaches to the backs.
Marcus was dropped from 10 because the attack was not
functioning, although arguably it functioned better against
Ireland than France Or Scotland.
There were glimpses in the second half against France but
nothing against Scotland.
Freeman said the plan against Scotland was to kick for territory
or hoist 50-50 balls and hope for a tap back. Some attack plan.
Earlier this week the coaches said Marcus could be a world class
15 and better there than 10.Two days later he was dropped and
replaced by Daly to kick the ball back. Hopefully not straight
out of play as against Scotland.
Anyway, we now have an almost completely different set of backs
than the one we started with. It is not much of a vote of
confidence in Fin that he needs his club mates around him to
step up to international level.
Borthwick today says he wants Marcus to come on when the gaps
appear later in the game. In other words grind out a winning
position and then do some crowd pleasing showboating stuff when
there is no danger of losing. Any creative play is a luxury. It
is all a bit depressing when you see what English club rugby can
produce.

With respect, that is what many on here have been loudly
advocating for Marcus.
