I sent a question in advance “ What’s the target audience age
for Quins”
Also asked why if we want to grow the squad didn’t we use more
from academy in prem cup”
It’s obviously very highly scripted, and understandable as to
why, but it was obvious certain people had been picked to ask
questions. And Dave on the Mike told to fill up time hence why
everyone on the panel pretty much got asked their opinion
Been to them all, and that’s the last one I’ll bother with

1) Are you concerned about how at times there has been a clear
gulf in quality and overall ability between us and now a
growing number of teams above us?
- I don't think that you can answer a question such as this as
it is not measurable. You would likely get a pointless answer
pointing towards the times we have beaten teams such as Bordeaux
and Sarries.
2) Do you think the fans get value for money when supporting
Quins?
- They did answer this
3) Why has there been a reoccurring theme of once we give up a
lead, simply not being able to regain it back? (Links in to
simply not creating enough chances).
- Probably did answer it with the stats, etc.
4) We have gone from having the strongest scrum in the league,
to one that now at best struggles to keep parity yet alone
dominate, why is that?
- I think the question needs more work. You really need to
quantify the scrum last season and pre/post Marler. Otherwise
you will just get a pointless answer - like Marler leaving mid
season was not idea, etc.

I get your point how they'd answer it. I think with the last one
more angles at recruitment with the poor options we now have at
TH - but they will never slag off a player. I dont think Marler
really is a big issue, Baxter more than stepped up and we lost
nothing in the scrum. (Maybe not recently though from when he
came back after the AI).
I personally think rather than a mid season thing, it should
just be an end of season review. That way we would have seen how
the entire season played out, where there is no possible
scenarios left to play. For example if it was held around the
time last year we had our good champions cup run, it would be
mostly positive. Having held it after winning just 2 out of our
last 7 premiership games, which exposed some glaring issues
(that are still present) it would have been a lot harder to
wiggle out of.

They didn't skirt around difficult topics regarding performance.
E.g. They used the term "got pumped" when discussing the last
two Prep games of last season.

Well thats at least somewhat encouraging. I suppose
acknowledging it is one thing, but making sure we aren't
"pumped" is another. I fear this month we will be lucky to get
anything, Tigers, Bath and Sarries isn't going to be comfortable
watching

I've been attending these meetings for more than 20 years.
Invariably Quins are going to break even next year.

You've kind of answered your own point there. Baxter has been
developed brilliantly and was deservedly starting ahead of
Marler at the end of last season. To seamlessly replace a player
as good as Joe doesn't happen by accident. But Baxter is only
one player and there have definitely been points this season
where he looked overworked (and Marler delayed his retirement by
a week to give the lad a break).
To have a reliable scrum, we need a minimum of 3 players in each
position who can do the job.
Wilson spoke pretty directly about needing to have more squad
depth, but also about the Academy players they've given
significant game time to this season, even if it would have been
easier to trust a more experienced player. That's included
Friday, Waghorn, Schmidt, Kerr, Benson, Cleaves, Hyde and Hobson
(who Wilson described as "the strongest player in the entire
squad in the gym").
There's clearly a timing point here - but I suspect Quins are
willing to accept a tough season in order to build the broader
squad depth within the cap. It would have been hard to do
earlier because of the way the reduced lockdown cap worked.

This time it looks achievable, especially given the extra
challenges resulting from COVID. Laurie was pretty open about
how costs and revenues have moved and showed a graph of how
we've closed from a £4m loss 4 years ago to £600k im the past
two years with the aim of breakeven next year.

Aren't these events really just softening up PR events to
pre-empt the season ticket renewal price increases? Laurie is
not going to say why Wilson retains his full confidence, or name
the incoming players yet to be announced.
