I think Jammy would be a great coach

       >
       > In football there is a clear correlation (and almost certain
causation) between salaries and league position. You aren't
going to get this in rugby. So success has to come from
elsewhere - strength and conditioning, tactics, crowd/stadium
       advantage, academy pathways etc.
       >
       > But ultimately all teams know this and all are trying to do
those things without, I suspect, huge variance. Is the Stoop a
tough place to come for eg? Maybe. But more so than Welford
Road, the Shed or the AJ Bell in January? Probably not.
       >
       > Is our academy or scouting vastly superior to any other club?
We have unearthed some rare gems like Dombrant but I suspect if
you went through all the other teams in the Prem, each has their
journeyman-come-good storylines and homegrown kids. The
       differences are slight.
       >
       > And while everyone wants the best coaches, be it onfield or in
the gym, there are many good coaches out there and each club
only needs a handful so the cream rises to the top.
       >
       > Statistically the Prem is incredibly close. 8 points separate
3rd from 9th. One BP win or one bad loss can have wildly
changeable impacts. And while over the course of a season you
can expect the top 1 or 2 teams to be in the right places, the
last two in the play-offs is often a crapshoot. If we are honest
with ourselves, Quins were not the best team when we won the
league but we won the games when it counted with two amazing
comebacks. These were outliers to league games though rather
       than reflective.
       >
       > All of this is to say that changing coaches might make a
difference, it might not. But differences at this level at tiny
and ultimately only 1 team's fans are going to be happy at the
end of the season. Everyone else will wonder what might have
       been.
       >

Exactly this. FWIW there are similar conversations on Sale's fan
board about whether the coaching team needs a refresh..
It's not hard to imagine there may have been some amongst Exeter
fans this season, Gloucester fans last year and Bristol fans in
2021/2. None of these clubs changed the main coach but have
       changed their approach/way of working.
I'd also echo the point that since CoS left the role in 2016
Quins never seem to have settled on a Head Honcho. By my
reckoning, since then you've had 6 changes in 9 seasons. For
comparison, I think the next most is Tigers with 5 changes but
two of those were for success (Borthwick and Wigglesworth). Even
Newcastle have only changed 3 times despite never getting above
10th since their relegation in 18/19.
That's not a dig at Quins but it hopefully does show that
changing the main man doesn't necessarily lead to success.

May be worth a shout Declan Kidney DOR and Les Kiss HC combo
(Eddie O'Sullivan as a wild card). Both might be up for it
Know the league, know the area, history of working together.
Good Irish connections - may be a pathway to a bit of purchasing
business. 6 nations pedigree. Took Irish from Championship
winners up to 5th before it all went a bit Pete Tong there.
Straight drop in for BM and DW defo refresh.

I would think seriously about putting NEv in charge.
He has now been in his current role for some time. He is
probably getting to a point in his career where he needs to
start taking on more responsibility, etc.
And - what is the worst that can happen?
Even if we come stone last, it is almost impossible to go down
       to the Championship.

I think a lot of would be wary of that approach, or at least
cautious. Kingston followed that path, from being a good coach,
but in the top job just wasn't the right fit, as it encompassed
more than his remit , which just didn't work out.

       lacked these skills

appreciate he could dual role but lot's need sorting?
