I think that if we cross the try line 7 times again tonight and
lose again, then we can probably count ourselves as pretty
unlucky.

The problem was he was made captain when he probably wouldn't,
or shouldn't, have been a first pick. Unfortunately that's my
abiding memory of him - it was a frustrating time.

A bit early to be assessing Tyler Offiah relative to his father.
He's less than a year out of youth rugby.

That's what I thought at first, as England huffed and puffed to
stay in the contest until they borught Guscott on and he'd save
the day with two or three swift tries.
It was only when I reflected on it later that I realised that it
was the 50 minutes of bludgeoning in attack and defence from de
Glanville and Carling that left the opposition a little slower,
a little less aggressive and leaving the sort of gaps that
Guscott could exploit.
For the time, it was really clever tactically, and an astute
response to tactical substitutions being formally permitted
(which only happened in 1996). I don't think de Glanville senior
gets enough credit for how vital he was to that.

Good start from Quins, and we could be further ahead but for
(rare) errors by Waghorn and Schmidt. No matter, though, because
Jake Murray and Will Joseph have made it 0-14

Hang on. He gets rolled over the line by the defence. He places
the ball but a pen to bath because he hasn't immediately placed.
So if defenders pull an attacker over the line it's either held
up or a pen to the defence?

It seemed harsh to me, but Stuart Terheege was clear that it was
a penalty whether he was pulled or made the movement himself.
