Well it's certainly circular but frankly no. Our players were
"excellent" against a second XV who beat us when we should have
put them away comfortably.
The team we play next time will probably contain none of them
because they've got at least 15 players who are better. We have
7 or 8.

And yet our best XV beat their best XV earlier this season

It's more like 10, and they'll likely be playing alongside the 5
who were excellent (no scare quotes needed). It's silly to
pretend the whole 15 were poor. A good chunk of the team were
obviously far better than their opponents. The rest let
themselves down. Let's not get revisionist about Dombrandt, WEv,
Joseph, etc

If JEv had played at his normal standard and had Green started,
then we would have won easily.
We were massively dominant in the game. We crossed the try line
7 times and came pretty close on at least 3 other occasions -
e.g. Gjaltema getting hauled down on the 5m line.
Brain f4rts by JEv and Ernie handed them the game combined with
Gjaltema getting injured early in the 2nd half. (He was clearly
injured for some time before he went off - we were guessing that
he broke his finger.)

I didn't say the whole 15 were poor. I just pointed out that
Sarries will be strengthening their team by more players than
Quins, probably by more than 15 players across the 23. That's
all. Yes, I think we were poor as a team to lose that. I don't
think I said anything controversial.

Yes and it was a fantastic win. Our first in 10? games. But that
was then.

He was getting treatment on a leg for quite a while at one
point.

Benson has looked to me like our backup to Marcus for some time
now - and that's only based on fleeting appearances, but the guy
oozes composure and class. Have never been impressed by Jarrod -
too slow, goes for the Hail Mary way too often and his kicking
has been shown to be patchy at best.
I hope the coaches give Jamie a run now after this weekend - I
think he could be quite some player...

Benson has long been the long term successor to Marcus, but he's
been away at uni. That said, bear in mind that he has been
getting regular game time in the championship, whereas Jarrod
has been benchwarming; it usually takes a run of games for
someone to look settled in our side (with some honourable
exceptions).
My view on Benson is that he looks to have huge potential, and
is probably in more of a Smith, F model than a Smith, M one
(which may bode well in time for his England chances), but he
suffers a bit from what Beard had in his first season or so - I
think he is too used to being able to make a difference by
himself that he tries too much rather than using the team. Fix
that, and he could be superb - if we can hang onto him.

Benson and Friday could be a great double act. I suspect the
season after next will be when I think we will see them more in
the first team bench slots, so hopefully get them tied down on a
3 year gig once this season is up, as both are more then capable
