From the stands, Saints seem to getting a lot of leeway at the
breakdown and for high tackles. I would have thought that last
one met the card threshold, given it looked like an arm straight
across the neck

Strange game - it has the feeling of a pre-season or 6N filler
game.

Luke Pearce making some extremely weird decisions today. Really
not impressed with him telling WEv to let go after Saints player
turns the ball over and WEv immediately latches on. And the less
said about his interpretation of the high tackle laws, the
better.
Close game, decent contest. Cleaves looking fairly rusty and JEv
not being able to kick goals the difference between the two
sides. Gutted to see Chis get a bad injury.
Danny shouldn't come out for the second half, we need more zip
in the pass and his kicking hasn't been quite right anyway.
Waghorn has had some good moments. David providing some
surprising punch on the right. Green with maybe his best half of
the season, shame his opposite number is also having a top game.

On the TV the second one was marginal and the Cleaves one was
perfectly called by the ref/TMO.

Perhaps I'm wrong and they've reverted the seat belt law, but if
they haven't, Pearce has decided they're fine if they don't hit
the neck or head. So essentially they don't exist any more
because that is just a regular high tackle.
The current laws say
A player must not tackle (or try to tackle) an opponent above
the line of the shoulders even if the tackle starts below the
line of the shoulders.
Seems pretty clear to me.

Has the law changed? Head or neck contact is not required for
the seat belt tackle to be illegal.

Evans is a great running 10 but his kicking game overall is
pretty poor for a 10 with international ambitions. Just hope
this game isn’t in Saints favour by a few points

Yeah... In fairness to Danny, it was indeed JEv putting in a
couple of those poor kicks.
