Jarrod Evans in action for Harlequins
Harlequins have made eight changes for the visit of Northampton
Saints as Gallagher Premiership action returns to The Stoop
(Friday 24 January, 19:45 – live on TNT Sports).
The league sparks back into life for one week as seventh take on
eighth to kick off the weekend’s fixtures, before attentions
turn to the Premiership Rugby Cup.
Both teams are without their Six Nations internationals as
preparations ramp up for the upcoming Championship, which has
led to opportunities across the squad under the Friday Night
Lights.
Four changes in the backline see the evergreen Danny Care
partner Jarrod Evans in the half-backs, while Will Joseph comes
in the squad at outside centre. Meanwhile, Cassius Cleaves makes
his return from injury to start on the wing.
In the pack, Wyn Jones and Simon Kerrod will pack down at
loosehead and tighthead respectively, with Joe Launchbury
returning to the engine room to partner skipper Stephan Lewies.
Will Evans will also pack down at openside for the visit of the
Saints.
Jordan Els, Dillon Lewis and Irne Herbst all return to the
matchday squad following their selection as Impact Players,
while Jamie Benson and Leigh Halfpenny are also included.

Considering who we're missing, that's a strong team - with a few
people coming back from injury at just the right time.
Interesting points:
- Waghorn seems to have taken the 12 shirt and does not want to
let go. Good luck to him, hope he can maintain the standad he's
set so far
- Great to see Cleaves, Joseph and Irne back
- That's a strong back row, especially with Lawday on the bench
and considering Saints will be missing a few
- DC presumably in for experience and to steer the ship a bit
given that backline has never played together before.

No disrespect to Halfpenny, great player back in the day, but
what is the point of having him on the bench?

With the players available one would guess he is the best option
to cover several positions given his experience, a bit like
Danny starting this match.

Wonder if Lennox has slightly been frozen out given the exit
rumours which coincided with loss of form.
Shame Isgro isn't fit but not a bad back 3 if Cassius can hit
the ground running and keep fit. Big ask to get 80 out of him.
Expect Tyrone to move to the wing and Halfpenny to take the last
few blustery high balls to see us home.

Considering the weather forecast, I may have gone with 1/2p
starting and Cleaves on the bench.
Although we would be sacrificing a lot of pace, I can see there
being lots of high balls and I think that his experience may be
an advantage.

Perhaps part of the thinking behind Care's selection. A more
seasoned kicker.
But agree, will be a difficult game for Cleaves to come into.

I've been wondering a bit about the chicken and eggness of
Lennox's situation. It seems odd for a player to leave in what
should have been his breakthrough season, so is he leaving
because he knew that the club had Waghorn, Bradley, Hyde, Kerr
coming through and that his opportunities might be limited, is
the club bringing Waghorn through because Lennox decided to
leave or is it a bit of both?
It's a shame to lose Lennox, because I think he has a lot to
offer, but where you have multiple talented players competing
for the same spots in the squad, you are inevitably going to
lose some.

DC has more caps than all the backs (starters and bench) put
together
