I re-watched the game on Premier Sports as I was at the game on
       Friday night.
I think that Quins was a little fortunate to win this.
Glasgow had a lot of chances to score tries that they fluffed.
E.g. The dummy where he lost the ball.
The long pass which Murley picked off virtually on the try line.
The forward pass on the wing where the player was in space.
The try that was ruled out due to the knock on .
On the other hand, other than the Waghorn non-try, we didn't
       really have that many opportunities.
We had a couple of kick chases that may have been interesting if
they stayed in and Nick David's chip and chase could have been
       better.
But, we seemed to spend a long time with struggling to get into
       the Glasgow 22.
And - there were suggestions that the Murley try shouldn't have
stood (although, I didn't go back and look into it - so, I can't
       comment.)
Glasgow's performance very much reminded me of the Quins v
Toulon performance - i.e. a team doing some good work but not
       finishing their opportunities.

Yeah, we rode our luck a bit. The Murley try came from a WEv
turnover that did indeed look very wrong. Mind you, I was still
seething over an in the side clean out just outside their 22,
about 30 seconds earlier, so hey.
However, I don't think any of this is a negative. Glasgow are an
extremely good side who are very potent with ball in hand and we
chose to pin them back rather than giving them anything to work
with in the middle third. Our attack was varied, we had a lot of
joy in the outside channels, and it didn't look like we weren't
threatening to score or that we lacked ideas; instead we were
happy to have a look and then put them under pressure with the
       kick. It worked a treat.
In other words - it was a pretty smart approach against a side
fully capable of giving us a hiding.

Yes, but also to encourage defending teams to contest, rather
than just setting and having an advantage at the maul.

Quins don't score a lot through phase play this season - when
we're on our game we score a lot from turnover ball, and our
maul has been pretty reliable. In the conditions, and especially
considering we had a defensible lead for most of the game, it
made sense to make them do all the work.

Interesting. How is it applied to long overthrows, I wonder?

Still have to be straight - they do get pulled up for a free
       kick if they're not.

refs interpretation. In a normal lineout there is time for the
opposition to consider whether or not to compete but by throwing
quickly to the front you take away the choice unless they jump
early - which is a separate offence. So ensure it goes straight
for quick throws or say that competing is moving towards the
       ball in anyway.

All eminently sensible and I don't disagree that that's how it
should be, but World Rugby being its usual competent self, it
isn't what is actually written in the law (and nor is it covered
       in the accompanying guidance).
A bad weekend has turned into a worse Monday for us - Tuipolotu
out until towards the end of the season, Scott Cummings broken
arm and Gregor Hiddleston a broken ankle. We lost our captain
Kyle Steyn to injury last week too. Injuries happen, but a real
gut punch of a few days!

The WeV turnover looked wrong at the time but think the replay
clearly shows he comes through the gate, carefully stepping over
the tackled player’s legs. The ref was right there too.

The law (18.23a) does clearly say though that that the ball must
       must be thrown straight though.
I guess that in this case, the ref didn't think that the player
had tried to throw it straight.
(Just for clarity, the lineout was towards the Northern part of
the pitch and I sit in the South stand - so, I have no clue as
to whether it was straight or not. I did rewatch the game - but
I didn't pay much attention to this decision).
Sad about the injuries. Cummings looked pretty uncomfortable
when he came off - and Hiddleston's injury did look fairly
       serious too.
I do hope they recover soon (as well as the other 2 players).

I think this is covered by the lineout being "over" once the
ball passes the 15m line but it still has to be straight to that
point. I hope that under the new variation that if the defending
team doesn't lift anyone that a slight wobble is allowed on the
       long throw.
When I was reading the variation I was interested to see that
you are only competing if you are lifted, just jumping isn't
       enough.
