Toga, you can't invent the idea that it's his fault Quins aren't
scoring tries and then pretend it's a neutral and fair minded
assessment of the situation. As anyone who's watched us
regularly this season would know, we have plenty of problems
that have led to our position and he wouldn't make the top 10 in
       the list.
Given he was one of England's best players in the autumn
according to practically everyone outside of Stephen Jones and
you, you're going to have to do a lot more than state your daft
opinion as fact before people take you seriously.
(Spoiler: no one on here will take you seriously, because
someone who repeatedly registers to troll us and get banned and
re register and repeat is a bizarre obsessive whose hatred of
       Quins is clearly all consuming)

What part of "I'm a big fan of Marcus Smith, he's got loads of
talent and is definitely test quality" don't you understand?!
I agree that Marcus was one of England's best players in the
AIs, however they lost all of them (don't count Japan).

The bit where I've read your recent sniping about him on NPR.
That Barry John comment alone would persuade people how
       disingenuous you are.
[Quote]I agree that Marcus was one of England's best players in

If you don't count Japan then Fin Smith's impact for England off
       the bench is diabolical.
Anyway, I bothered to look to see how Quins have done in the
league when Marcus starts. 7 matches this season, try bonus
points in 4, and the others are 3, 2, and 0 tries. Only an
insane person would suggest that's the sign of a player not
       performing with his club.
Saints - the reigning champions - have had two blowouts where
they've scored 7 tries with Fin starting (albeit one of them he
got rested shortly after half time) and the other 7 are:
4,4,3,2,1,1 [edit: fixed a mess up]
The median for both players when starting is 4 tries. The mean
is 3.14 vs 3.34 [edit: fixed] in Fin's favour, while Marcus
averages 9.4 points per game Vs 8.7.
The long and short of it is: both players are getting their
teams scoring a good number of tries on a regular basis, but
Saints have had a couple of huge results, much to their credit.
It certainly doesn't suggest Quins are struggling to score tries
       with Marcus...

To be compared to Barry John is praise indeed.
You describe Saints as 'the reigning champions' as if that is a
pejorative! Fin Smith was the Saints 10 last year as well in
       case you weren't aware.

No, I'm pointing out that they're a temporarily embarrassed
great side capable of thumping teams. Northampton were the best
team in the league last season and have a better squad than we
       do despite their league position.

Do you think that Northampton would be a better team if Marcus
were their 10 instead of Fin?
Injuries aside, Marcus is required to play alongside many of the
Saints backline. Who do you think gets the best tune out of
players like Freeman, Furbank, Mitchell, Sleightholme and
       Dingwall?

The fly half that the team is built around is likely the best
option for that team. Marcus could well do worse than Fin for
Saints if they swapped today. However, the same is true in
reverse: Fin could well do worse for us. It's another daft
question. They are two talented players playing very different
styles of rugby for two very different teams set up to take
advantage of their (and their teammates) different skillsets.
Anyway, given how marginal the difference in tries is, this is
yet another pointless diversion. Why don't you just say that you
think Marcus has to have a crash ball centre and can't bring
other players into the game and then shut up and disappear
       again?
I have a job to get back to, sadly, so you'll have to entertain
       yourself for a while.

I think we all know what that will involve but I'm trying to
       unthink it.

So you think the Saints 10 is a better option when he plays in a
       team with other Saints backs?
       Yes, I agree.

Exhibit #34,540 in a long list of you arguing in bad faith.
No, that is not what I think. You didn't ask that question. You
asked about Marcus playing for Northampton. Not "a team with
other Saints backs". Northampton. Not an England side with a
handful of Saints, but Northampton. Your question was clear and
       my answer was detailed.
And, just to make it extremely clear, Northampton coaches are
not England coaches, and Northampton, like Quins, play nothing
       like Borthwick's England.
If you wanted to say "I believe that with Mitchell playing 9 for
England, and the presence of several other Saints in the England
team, that Fin Smith's existing relationships with them would be
beneficial to England and help Fin find his feet at
international level" then that is entirely uncontroversial and a
line of argument that was used in Marcus' favour when there were
more Quins in the side. I don't agree that it makes him the
better option for England, but it's not an outlandish opinion to
       hold.
But instead of that, we get this weird attempted gotcha that
just makes you look like you're incapable of having a reasonable
       conversation.
