Fin I think suits Englands approach with Borthwick. Marcus is
too much of a “maverick” for him and his metronome approach to
rugby, and those around Marcus aren’t on his creative
wavelength.

top test quality player. The problem is, at test level, the 10
needs a different mindset to the natural instincts that Marcus
has, and you can see why coaches are wary about having him as
their main man. Arguably, it requires a greater skill to bring
the best out of those players around you than it does to create
individual moments of brilliance.

Which coaches are these, though? Jones, Borthwick, and the Quins
guys - i.e. all of his coaches - have been more than happy to
give him the job.

TBF, maybe Marcus is the problem if others aren't on his
wavelength.

It's not that complicated. He would like players to run a line
and also be alive to opportunities. The game plan has been,
first and foremost, kick and defend; if you coach a side to do
that to destruction you can't be particularly surprised if the
cohesion isn't there when we need to try and break a defence
down.

I think George Ford might disagree.

Quins are 8th in the Premiership for tries scored. Saints are
4th.
I'm a fan of Marcus but he's not getting his club side scoring
many tries either.

The guy who was on the bench behind Marcus for all 3 autumn
internationals he played in?

We're talking about England, not Quins, and that is an extremely
daft way to judge a single player in a team sport.

Yes, the flyhalf with 98 caps who tore his quad muscle in
October.

Not really. If his club side can't find his 'wavelength' then
what chance does England?
