You do know the Guinness Book of Records people don't just take
your word for it when you say you've broken a record? In this
case they counted the people watching the game. Maybe not the
people absolutely rivetted by the rugby going on, but the people
in seats while the games was going on. That's how crowds are
usually counted!

The attendance was 82000 in the main game-why so few in the game
before? The difference in the standard of rugby between the two
games was immense.

I’d guess there were a variety of reasons.
Personally, I was watching with my wife and kids. We debated
watching both games but didn’t fancy 6 hours in the stadium. In
a couple of years, watching both games will be more
likely/viable.
