Was great to see the Quins Ladies make it 8 in a row. As a
former STH who can no longer afford to watch Men's Prem games, I
have been going to a few Women's games this year and I enjoy it
immensly. After the games the Girls ALWAYS show their
appreciation. They always thank those who stay afterwards and
always have time for kids for photos signatures etc.. Keep up
the great work Ross C and his squad.

Good game over all, five point win and Ellie turning it on for
two tries. Tigers not quite there yet but their first season at
the big table. Bit odd to watch something you don’t like and
then comment incessantly on it. Quins top the table so it’s good
to see one of our representatives doing well. I enjoy watching
the women’s game, it’s different in some ways but no less
skilful or committed than the men’s.

Struggling to see the connection between misogyny and just
       saying the game was bad.
If the 100m sprint was on, and I said i didn’t like it, does
that make me a racist? (because of the obvious).

       You aren't sorry.
So. Feel a bit bad this is my first post (I used to post on here
years back, but just stopped when we stopped coming to games),
but stuff like this saddens, and maddens me.
My daughter plays minis for her club. She was lucky enough to
play in the community games at the Stoop beforehand yesterday.
Usually, there are a few other girls there, but yesterday she
was the only one from the club who attended (it was an age group
that still is touch rather than tackle). She touched the ball
just twice in an hour of matches, once was from centre when the
coach / ref gave her the ball. The other time, she actually got
passed to, and she scored. This is a now fairly regular and
dispiriting thing. I spend most Sunday mornings now trying to
keep her spirits up. The boys are now at the stage where she
will be standing there looking for a pass with nobody near her,
the boys will look at her, and then try and find someone else to
pass to. Like I say, dispiriting.
Part of the thing that still keeps her involved on a Sunday
morning is that there are other girls there. Unless they're on
the same team, it's now likely they won't touch the ball in the
small end-of-session matches. I would safely argue that the two
best players in her age group are girls. Same thing for them.
The other thing that keeps her liking rugby is the women's
games. She's been to the Stoop to watch Quins women a fair few
times. Her favourite rugby player is Shaunagh Brown. Her
highlight of the year was the England v Ireland game in the Six
Nations, where she picked up autographs and selfies with most of
the Ireland team (who, bear in mind, had just been heavily
beaten). As she walked out of the stadium, she commented to her
(also Irish) mate "that's ok, when we come back and play
       here...".
Yesterday, she got to see the Quins team walk over from the
Stoop. She was absolutely stoked to see Ellie Kildunne go past.
She then got to watch the women's team play at Twickenham. She
got to see the World Player of the Year do her stuff. The
happiness she exuded watching Quins go on the rampage in that
game cheered me up. The (older) girls team from her club then
got to play on the pitch at half-time in the women's game, so
she got to see what she could do in a few years time. She even
enjoyed the men's game (I honestly thought she'd be knackered
and lose interest, but she hung in there).
       Can't See, Can't Be is a well-used phrase for women's sport.
Yesterday, she got to see. Was it the greatest game ever? No,
not really. Quins were excellent (Tuima having a strangely bad
day off the tee, but was excellent in every other aspect), but
bearing in mind the relative youth of women's professional
rugby, to have 18000 people watching the game in the stadium is
a massive credit to how Quins (amongst other clubs) view their
women's team, as something to be nurtured, invested in, allowed
to grow. Getting eyes on the game, on TNT, means that other
girls can see what could be possible for them.
So for every girl who isn't being passed to on a Sunday morning,
for every man feeling the need to comment on the standard of a
not fully professional sport despite it really not affecting
them in any way, for every female player who had to work a shift
for the fire brigade before playing the following day at HQ,
there will be Ellie Kildunne, Jade Konkel or even Ilona Maher
       for them to aspire to.
There was absolutely no need for this thread to be started - if
there had been a match thread already, and the comment had been
made halfway through, still weird, but you do you. I cannot
genuinely fathom why you did so, and I sure as hell know that
there is literally zip that anyone will say (least of all me)
that will make you change your mind. But yesterday, my daughter
got a chance to see what is possible for her by watching players
who would absolutely have fought against this mindset, and are
doing the walking so that she can do some running.

Elbombero, I completely understand your post having been through
most of what you describe with my daughter. I hope you and your
daughter stay with it and thing’s really do improve the older
she gets. You might have to seek out clubs that have a larger
girls section so they get to play without the boys spoiling it.
My daughter came across a few over cocky lads at some camps and
events . They weren’t so after she’d stepped them and put them
on their @rses a couple of times. She was also disappointed at
being limited to touch games because they were mixed groups but
thems the rules and you do have to protect the boys.
There’s been a lot of investment in the womens game in
the last ten years and it’s really working now. Looking forward
to the World Cup here this year.

Supporter of Harlequins Men but spends most of the time
denigrating the womens team or the England team with very few
posts on Harlequins men. Bit odd.
