Thought his handling of the Ireland v NZ game was the finest
performance I had ever seen, just magnificent from start to
finish!!!! (Though why Ireland get TWO songs and the Kiwis get
the silly dance I'll never know!!!!!!)

I'm sure if you think about it a bit you can work it out!
Not really. They sing the Irish anthem AND a joint one. Surely
it should be just the IC, or Soldier song + GSTQ? That would be
wonderful.

They only get the two tunes when playing at home. Whenever they
play outside the RoI, they just get Irelands Call.

Anyway......
Yes agree on Barnes -- the best ref in the world at the top of
his game. Can't be a more high pressure game than that and he
was superb. Made the right calls, let the game flow, didn't let
the players start telling him what to do and totally unflappable
in the face of pressure from the crowd, not afraid to make the
big calls.

He should have given Kearney at least a yellow card for his
challenge on Ioane in the air. You could make a decent argument
for a red as Ioane's head bounced off the turf. Poor reffing.

Sorry but couldn’t disagree more. In no way ever is that a red.
Didn’t think it was yellow either.
Certainly what it isn’t is proof that Barnes wasn’t excellent.

I agree. I thought he was brilliant. Such a contrast to the lax
officiating at Twickenham the week before. Players respond when
there is clear direction.

Ireland have three songs if they are playing at home.
I would stop that.

It's a shame that Barnes has announced his retirement after the
World Cup, for family & career reasons. See

He's about 8 years younger than Nigel Owens, which suggests he
would have had a lot of referring left in him.
